What you'll be doing: Planned Parenthood of Southern New England has an opening for a full-time (37.5 hours per week) GYN outpatient Licensed Practical Nurse for our Region 1 Bridgeport (home site) and Danbury Health Centers, with the opportunity to assist our New Haven, Stamford, and Waterbury sites as needed.
Essential Functions
- Ensures high quality, direct patient interactions based on empathy for the sensitive issues facing our patients and an understanding of the diversity of those utilizing our services. Provides professional relationship while effectively eliciting information given by the patient for purposes of their visit. Ensures this information is appropriately charted in the record and clearly communicated to the clinician.
- Responsible for assisting the Clinician in the direct patient care of patients within protocols established by PPSNE. Provides direct patient care as needed including injections, patient support, phlebotomy, and laboratory work.
- Ensures each patient is welcomed into the center for their visit. Able to determine the proper paperwork need for patient registration including insurance information, financial information and basic demographic information. Willing to discuss payment options and insurance information pertaining to services being provided to the patient.
- Accurately manages all data incorporated into a patient visit. Maintains accurate updates and stores information regarding the patient records, lab slips, visit information, and equipment and supply recording logs. Under direct supervision of the Clinician, will assist in medical follow up systems at the center.
- Participates in the provision of all PPSNE medical services including contraception, STD treatment, ultrasounding for both abortion procedures, in-clinic abortion, abortion by pill services, and much more.
- Under an APRN, CNM, PA or MD/DO, will follow up on laboratory and imaging results per PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G) Assists with health center follow up and patient triage, both at the home site and remote support for other health centers.
- Provides all information/education deemed necessary by the clinician in a thorough, professional manner. Provides education to patients per protocol as indicated in the areas of birth control methods, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, pregnancy options and counseling, gender affirming hormone therapy, and more. Ensures that the information/education given to the patient is current, accurate and expertly communicated.
- Assists the clinician for procedures as necessary. Ensures each exam room is set-up prior to use and thoroughly cleaned afterward. Ensures all supplies are restocked and up to date and all equipment is cleaned according to quality control standards.
- Ensures supplies and emergency carts are up to date and are maintained according to quality control standards.
- Conducts all necessary laboratory procedures relating to the patient visit. Ensures all lab procedures are carried out in accordance with safety and medical protocols. Performs basic lab duties including pregnancy testing, phlebotomy, urinalysis and preparing specimens for transport to respective laboratories. Ensures that all specimens are collected, packaged, recorded, and sent to the lab in accordance with established quality control standards. When applicable, willing to perform lab duties during surgical abortion clinic to include assisting the procedural abortion provider with products of conception (POC) evaluation, washing and sterilizing packs, and packaging of POC. · Ensures an environment that appreciates and embraces a variety of experiences and perspectives which arise from differences in race, culture, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, ability and gender identity.
- Participates in health center efforts to achieve established productivity and revenue cycle goals.

- Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, quality assurance and regulatory compliance programs

Education and Experience Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited licensed practical nurse program
- Current Connecticut State License as an LPN
- Certified CPR highly desirable
- Experience as an LPN highly desirable
Schedule
- Monday-Friday
- Hours as late as 7pm most nights
- Saturday as needed (not required)
$17.80 - $29.67 an hour
Hourly Rate: MIN: $17.80 MID: $23.74 MAX: $29.67 and is determined based on full years of experience.
