The Principal Design Review Officer provides built environment design expertise, advice and support to the Design and Built Environment directorate, as well as other key stakeholders including the Government Architect, relating to major developments, public works, precincts, planning policy, strategic planning and advocacy initiatives, in accordance with State Planning Policy 7.0 Design of the Built Environment.

For a complete understanding of this opportunity, and what will be required to be a successful applicant, read on.As the Principal Design Review Officer, you will case manage highly complex development proposals through State Design Review Panel and Government Architect design review processes, including those pertaining to applications submitted as part of the Planning and Development Act 2005 Part 11B Significant Development Pathway. You will also oversee the production of design review reports and related documentation within the Design Review team, taking a guiding role in ensuring a high standard of reporting quality across all design review streams. You will be part of a close-knit team operating within an often dynamic and fast-paced environment.This position is available for immediate filling on a full-time, permanent basis. This process may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.To be successful for this position, you need to demonstrate : A tertiary degree qualification in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or Urban and Regional Planning and / or Development or acceptable equivalent.Demonstrated extensive experience in the delivery of architectural, landscape architectural or urban design services particularly pre-design, design and implementation of highly complex projects.Demonstrated experience undertaking reporting of qualitative built environment design review against State Planning Policy 7.0 : Design of the Built Environment or a similar design quality framework that operates within a planning system.An exemplary standard of written and visual communication skill, with demonstrated experience in the preparation of clear, concise reporting in a corporate or government context and ability to guide and instruct others in the preparation of high-quality reporting.Excellent verbal communication skills, as well as stakeholder engagement ability.Detailed knowledge of current and emerging trends in built environment design, development and planning.Core leadership behaviours outlined in Leadership Expectations are applicable to this role and should be demonstrated in the context of Leading Others.
