Role Description : The Plant Manager oversees all aspects of a produce packing facility, ensuring efficient and high-quality production for retail and wholesale. This role is responsible for leading a team, optimizing processes, maintaining safety standards, and achieving production goals. The plant manager will be responsible for driving a culture of continuous improvement.

Tasks

  • People : Properly staffing and scheduling for different shifts.
  • People Safety : Support the development of a culture of safety in the workplace by providing trainings, supporting the safety committee, and actively incentivizing safe practices.
  • Food safety : Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Development : In conjunction with Human Resources, define, develop, and execute a plan to support leads and supervisors managements skills.
  • Inventory : Manage inventory levels of raw materials, packaging supplies, and finished products.
  • Continuous Improvement : Research, develop, and implement strategies to improve production efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Equipment : In partnership with maintenance manager, oversee equipment maintenance and implement preventive maintenance programs to optimize uptime.
  • Financial management : Manage the plant's budget and financial performance.
  • Software implementation : Spearhead the implementation of red zone, a productivity software.
  • Communication : Develop and maintain active communication with sales, logistics, and the head of operations.

Operational Leadership : Ability to effectively plan, direct, and coordinate the operations of the food processing facility to meet customer demands.

  • Food process expertise : Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, equipment, and continuous improvement.
  • Forecasting : developing and implementing production schedules that meet customer demands based on present and future product availability.
  • Stress management : Ability to prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively in VUCA environment.
  • Attention to detail : Attention to detail and commitment to operational excellence.
  • Problem solving and decision-making : Ability to identify people, product, or equipment issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing effective solutions in accordance with budget.

  • Root Cause Analysis : Knowledge of different techniques to identify root cause analysis and identify and execute solutions. (fishbone diagram, 5 Whys, etc.)
  • Critical thinking : Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Analytics : Ability to process information from different sources and apply solutions based on best practices.
  • Assertiveness : Communicate in an assertive way with customers and employees, fostering a positive approach to resolving any issues promptly.
  • People and culture management : Ability to manage people to be effective and foster a positive environment.

  • People processes : Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, labor relations and negotiation.
  • HRIS : Familiarity with human resources information systems to support people operations. (Deel, BambooHR, Workforce, UKG, etc.)
  • Realistic optimism : Ability to approach problems with a positive lens and focus on solutions.
  • Multicultural awareness : Awareness and inculturation in a diverse workforce.
  • Work environment : The primary work environment for this role is a food processing facility : exposure to cool temperatures (40F), humidity, and noise levels throughout the day. The position requires the ability to stand for extended periods and may involve occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. As part of safety protocols, you will be required to wear personal protective equipment.

    Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Food Science, Industrial Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory role within a food processing or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in production planning, scheduling, and quality control based on previous experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and data analysis tools
  • High Emotional Quotient.
  • Basic level of Spanish.

  • Location : Onsite Cochise, AZ
  • Compensation : $120,000 - $150,000 base salary & up to 15%bonus
  • Reports to : EVP of Operations
  • Direct Reports : Yes (4 team members)
