Job Summary
Bank Tellers are entrusted with the most important part of a financial institution’s customer service initiatives:
~ They interact with customers, perform basic computational tasks, and explain bank transactions to their customers when needed.
~ They need to be very vigilant and educated about fraud, ensuring that bills are not counterfeit.
~ A Teller needs to be friendly and professional at “ALL” times and have a calm, patient demeanor, both with customers and co-workers!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Receives commercial and individual checking deposits, verifies cash and endorsements and issues receipts.
- Accepts checks for cashing or paying, verifies endorsement, validity, and funds, and makes changes.
- Receives savings deposits. Pays withdrawals after verifying balance and signature.
- Receives loan payments, checks due dates, and assesses late charges when applicable.
- Issues cashiers’ checks, credit card cash advances, and any other product that may be offered by the bank.
- Product knowledge, product sales and product referrals are a requirement.
- Always keeps cash secure and maintains a high level of safety for the bank.
- Accepts stop payment requests, check reorders, and address changes; distributes these to proper personnel for processing.
- Maintains proper level of cash in cash drawer.
- Answers customer questions, when necessary, always using the opportunities to cross-sell other bank services.
- Processes any of the following:
- Incoming mail deposits and payments
- Loan Deposits
- Signature Cards
- Transfers
- Deposits & Payments made through the Night Depository
- Performs any duties requested by a supervisor or bank officer relating to the bank and its’ functions.
- May be a backup CSR from time-to-time.
- Ensures compliance with all Federal and State banking laws, regulations, and rules.
- Will be a floating Teller, must be flexible.
- Will be on Saturday rotation.
- Great customer service is a priority, without customers the bank would not exist.
- All employees are to respect, not only their coworkers, but the bank’s customers at all times, no matter which department they work in.
- Maintains a high level of confidentially at all times.
- And, as directed, may perform other duties from time to time.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent of. Extended education a plus. Ability to perform all over-the-counter customer services. Exercise accuracy, alertness, good judgment, courtesy, tact and patience. Knowledge of computers and the ability to maneuver through the teller system with confidence. Preferably one-year previous banking experience or cash handling experience.

A good, positive personality is a requirement for this position and must be maintained even thru difficult situations. Customer Service is our business! The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, go up and down stairs and reach with hands and arms. Teller area uses swivel chairs with 360-degree swivel. The employee must regularly lift / or move up to 50 pounds if carrying coin bags – depending on which coin is being transported. If reaching for tubes at drive thru – the reach is approximately 15 to 17 inches up and then tilt out. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision.
