- Oversee indirect tax processes and compliance for US, Canada and Australia including but not limited to sales, use, CAT, GST/HST/QST/PST and B&O tax
- Research and provide nexus determinations, taxability analyses, and quantification of potential indirect tax exposure
- Update jurisdictional sales tax registrations to add or remove, when necessary
- Review, respond and resolve indirect tax notices from tax authorities
- Review and approve monthly/quarterly/annual tax returns and corresponding GL reconciliations
- Coordinate and manage indirect tax audits and Voluntary Disclosure Agreements
- Develop, improve and streamline processes and procedures for indirect tax compliance
- Monitor indirect tax legislative changes and partner with internal teams, primarily Business Applications and Billing, to ensure compliance
- Review and respond to customer inquiries regarding invoices, exemption certificates and IRS tax forms
- Monitor and maintain ERP tax tables for new and changed tax rates
- Collaborate on acquisition integration ensuring acquired tax accounts are transitioned and closed out
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Masters in Accounting or Taxation
- Minimum 5 years of multi-state, multi-jurisdiction sales and use tax experience with at least 1 year of management
- CPA preferred
- Located in Austin, Texas, with the ability to work in-office occasionally on Thursdays
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Strong analytical, creativity, problem solving, time-management, and planning skills.
- Strong Microsoft Excel expertise and solid Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills.
- Intermediate technical and/or system knowledge of ERP systems such as NetSuite or similar accounting software.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal staff and management.
- Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
- Understand product taxability, tax resale/exemption certificate and license rules by jurisdiction and provide tax advice, guidance and training to internal teams including teams outside of taxation
- Experience coordinating a multi-jurisdictional indirect tax compliance function with a focus on process improvement
- Detail oriented, with excellent organization and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to changing business needs and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently
- Flexibility to work with team members in different time zones, specifically India
