Applications are being accepted for the appointment of the Platte County Public Defender. The appointee shall fulfill the remainder of the term of office expiring January 2027.
Position Overview:
- The Public Defender must be a lawyer currently licensed to practice law in Nebraska.
- The Platte County Public Defender is a full-time position, supervising two full-time Deputy Public Defenders and two legal support staff. Prior jury trial experience is expected for this supervisory position.
- The Public Defender is responsible for preparing the annual budget for the office to be approved by the Platte County Board of Supervisors.
- The Platte County Public Defender's Office represents indigent defendants in misdemeanor, felony, child support enforcement/establishment, mental health board, and limited juvenile court capacities.
Position Salary:
- 2024: $77,000
- 2025: $78,000
- 2026: $79,000
