Job summary
Platte River's mechanical maintenance team has an opening to hire a seasoned industrial or power plant mechanic. We are looking for an adaptable maintenance technician who comes to work with a team-player attitude, commitment to working safely and with integrity, and takes pride in producing top-notch work.
This position works four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday, 6:30 am - 5:00 pm at Rawhide Energy Station located just north of Wellington, CO. Nights, weekends, and overtime hours are assigned when needed (~200 hours per year - actual need will vary). Job duties include maintenance of the coal-fired Unit 1, 4 EA and 1 FA combustion turbines, and future LM 6000 onsite resources. This requires frequent strenuous to extreme physical effort using heavy objects or tools (weighing 50 pounds or more) in awkward positions. While it is not required, certified pipe welders or machinists may be eligible to earn an additional 5% on top of base pay (testing required). The individual hired into this position can be placed as a level I, II, or III maintenance technician.

Essential duties and responsibilities
- Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization.
- Practices safety awareness and complies with safety standards set forth by the industry and the organization.
- Partners with other crew to improve organizational effectiveness by identifying strategies to resolve problems, improve team performance and effectiveness and develop people strategies that support the organization’s needs.
- Performs mechanical repairs on boilers, turbines, pumps, fans, combustion turbines, motors, valves, pollution control equipment, as well as coal, ash, and natural gas handling equipment.
- Accurately documents work procedures, parts used, time used, and tasks performed using computer-based maintenance systems.
- Clearly communicates equipment status to peers, supervisors, and management.
- Researches and obtains detailed equipment information to diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints/pipe and instrumentation diagram repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
- Effectively communicates highly technical information using spoken, written, and electronic forms of communication.
- Repair and fabricate parts using shop tools.
- Additionally for technician III: Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Performs welding with stick, TIG, and MIG method as needed.
- Works in tight spaces, on ladders or elevated platforms and in inclement conditions as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Additionally for technician III: Demonstrates leadership responsibilities such as project management and fills in for the supervisor and planner as requested.
- Additionally for technician III: Performs advanced level system maintenance and troubleshooting.

Required criteria
- Work experience: 7 or more years in large industrial machinery troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.
- Education: A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Other eligibility**: Current, valid driver’s license; be able to maintain insurability requirements on a corporate vehicle liability policy and subject to DOT random drug screening requirements as a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver.
- Knowledge of combustion turbines and associated equipment.
- Welder certification for Section IX of the ASME boiler and pressure vessel code.
- Experience as a machinist using manually operated lathes, milling machines and surface grinders.
This is an hourly non-exempt position; wages are paid bi-weekly. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include specific skills, years of experience, education, and certifications.
Maintenance Technician I
- Full pay range: $35.28 to $47.64 per hour
- Hiring range: $35.28 to $41.51 per hour
- Full pay range: $38.84 to $52.43 per hour
- Hiring range: $38.84 to $45.69 per hour*
- Full pay range: $42.75 to $57.73 per hour
- Hiring range: $42.75 to $50.27 per hour*
**Both level II and level III technicians are subject to random drug screening under DOT requirements as a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver and requires a valid driver's license and ability to remain insurable under Platte River's vehicle liability policy. When assigned additional driving or pipeline welding responsibilities, the level III technician may be subject the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and/or subject to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations and random drug screening.
