What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Ride Operator position at Playland?
Playland Summary: Playland Park, built in the 1920s, is registered as a National Historic Landmark and features approximately 10 historical rides and extensive art-deco historical structures. The 80-acre property has over one mile of waterfront. The Amusement Park 45 rides, a unique Kiddyland zone, arcades, entertainment stage, boardwalk, public beach, Olympic-size pool, an indoor skating rink, and borders a nature preserve and lake. The Park currently is undergoing a $150mm joint public private rehabilitation that includes significant infrastructure and building upgrades, new rides, attractions, guest amenities, and 3-5 new restaurants.
Summary / Objective: Ensures the safe and efficient operation of the ride or group of rides.
Essential Functions:
- Tests equipment daily before opening the ride to guests.
- Restricts the number of guests on the loading platform to the number who can be seated on the ride.
- Ensures safe operation of the ride. Makes certain that queue lines are safe and orderly.
- Assists with the loading and unloading of the ride for all guests of varying age, size, and physical ability.
- Verifies that safety restraints are correctly secured before the ride is started.
- Takes appropriate action to answer or resolve guest questions and complaints.
- Measures the height of all guests entering your attraction to ensure rider eligibility.
- Safely operate rides by always remaining vigilant and aware
- Provide excellent customer service to the guests of Playland Park through greeting guests and answering questions related to the attraction
- Direct guests to and from ride area and assist in loading and unloading of rides, which can include assisting guests in or out of rides as needed
- Physically check safety restraints to ensure they are in the correct and locked position
- Comprehend written and verbal instructions, retain information, and consistently enforce all ride safety, park, and departmental policies including, but not limited to: enforcing the attraction height requirements and following all safety procedures
- Keep a safe and clean work area
- Provide safety speeches to guests by using a microphone
- Records hourly ride capacity and cycles.

Physical demands:
- Requires sitting, standing for long periods of time, ability to walk long distances within the park and exposure to variable outside temperatures, including high heat.

Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Must be able to work a varied of shifts, including mandatory holidays and weekends
- Must have a working e-mail and phone number
- Must have basic math skills
- Must be able to interact in a multicultural environment with a variety of ages
- Drug and background check may be required
