What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Revenue Accountant position at PlayOn?
We’re looking for an energetic and forward-thinking Senior Revenue Accountant to join our fast-growing media company. In this role, you’ll be front and center, working closely with Sales, Operations and Finance to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 and other relevant accounting standards. If you thrive on detail, collaboration and problem-solving in a dynamic environment, this is the perfect opportunity to take your expertise to the next level.
The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical accounting expertise, and general ledger experience.
As our Senior Revenue Accountant, you will:
Support Revenue Recognition Processes: Oversee the day-to-day revenue recognition cycle—from contract review through month-end close—to ensure adherence to ASC 606 and company policies.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with Sales to validate contract terms, partner with Operations to track performance obligations and align with Finance on budgeting and forecasting needs.
Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for process enhancements, strengthen internal controls and integrate best practices to optimize revenue-related workflows.
The Outcomes You'll Deliver:
· Accurate & Compliant Revenue Recognition: Consistently meet close deadlines and produce error-free revenue records that align with ASC 606 and internal policies.
· Seamless Cross-Functional Coordination: Build effective relationships with Sales, Operations and Finance, proactively resolving any issues that impact revenue.
· Improved Processes & Controls: Identify and implement best practices that streamline revenue-related workflows, reduce manual tasks and strengthen internal controls.
\n- Perform monthly, quarterly and annual close activities related to revenue recognition, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and maintain revenue schedules, including deferred revenue, revenue accruals, and reconciliation of related accounts.
- Review & analyze contracts to determine appropriate revenue treatment.
- Support management in ad-hoc projects and initiatives related to revenue accounting and reporting.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to drive accurate revenue recognition, resolve discrepancies and enhance operational efficiency.
- Leverage technology to automate and improve key tasks.
- Adapt quickly to new processes, systems and challenges as the company continues to grow.
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (CPA or CPA-track preferred).
- 4 years of revenue accounting experience, with a strong knowledge of ASC 606.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with strong attention to detail.
- A solutions-oriented mindset, with a willingness to pivot quickly in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong communication skills, able to translate “accounting speak” for non-finance partners.
- Ownership over Participation: You take responsibility for achieving holistic outcomes, prioritize key objectives, and adapt quickly when situations require a different approach. You follow through even against the toughest challenges.
- Team over Stars: You are a bridge builder, establishing processes and relationships with teams outside your own. You work to rally around common goals, find win-win solutions, compromise when necessary, and help others succeed.
- Growth over Comfort: You are driven by a desire to grow and actively seek opportunities to expand your comfort zone, skills, and confidence. You embrace new challenges with curiosity, accepting discomfort and failure as opportunities to learn.
- Fairness over Popularity: You approach decisions with a scientist’s mindset, challenging your assumptions and remaining objective. You consider long-term impact rather than relying on short-term gains, proactively seek others’ perspectives, and manage emotions in decision-making.
