Swim Inclusion Coach
Wage: $10-$15/hour
Position Type: Part-time/Non-Benefited, Non-Exempt
Season: Mid-April to September (not to exceed 29 hours per week)
General Purpose:
The Swim Inclusion Coach plays a vital role in our aquatics program by providing
specialized swim instruction to individuals with disabilities. This position requires a
compassionate and patient individual who is comfortable working with swimmers of
varying abilities. The Swim Inclusion Coach will collaborate with the Assistant Aquatics
Manager, Aquatics Coordinator, and Aquatics Manager to create a supportive and
inclusive environment for all participants.
Functions and Duties:
● Instruction & Co-Teaching: Work alongside swim instructors to provide
inclusive swim instruction across all aquatics programs, catering to the needs of
swimmers with disabilities.
● Personalized Experience: Follow the swim inclusion plan for each individual,
creating a tailored experience that promotes inclusivity and success in the
water.
● Behavior Support: Provide behavioral support as needed, ensuring a positive
and safe learning environment for all swimmers.
● Skill Modification: Adapt swim lesson skills and activities to meet the unique
needs of each swimmer.
● Safety Compliance: Maintain compliance with swim inclusion protocols,
ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
● Communication: Regularly communicate with parents and guardians regarding
the progress and goals of their swimmers.
● Training Participation: Attend all in-service training sessions, with additional
training provided to enhance skills in working with individuals with disabilities.
● Facility Maintenance: Assist in maintaining a clean and safe facility, including
basic clean-up tasks as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
● Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
● Certification: Must be currently SAI Swim Instructor Certified or willing to
attend a PGVMP Certification course.
● Experience: Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities is
preferred, but not required.
Skills and Abilities:
● Ability to make sound decisions in a stressful aquatics environment.
● Comfortable working in adverse weather conditions.
● Capable of moderate physical activity, including lifting (15 to 50 pounds) and
standing/walking for extended periods.
● Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
● Excellent public relations and customer service skills, even in stressful
situations.
● Ability to understand and follow written and spoken instructions.
Conditions:
This position requires serving the public through various swimming pool offerings and
may involve work in adverse weather conditions. The Swim Inclusion Coach may need to
lift and manage equipment, stand for extended periods, and work odd or long hours,
including weekends and holidays, as dictated by the seasonal schedule and activities.
