Maintenance Job Description
Qualifications:
- Must have ability to read and write in English, and follow written and verbal instructions
- Must have ability to work independently without supervision
- Must be safety orientated, with full physical mobility, and physical ability to lift and move heavy objects.
- Periodically check and maintain PGISD facilities:
- Empty garbage cans and replace liners
- Clean up vandalism as warranted
- Remove fallen trees and shrubs
- Repair building damages
- Build and or repair fences.
- Periodically check and repair playground equipment
- Repair gates and locks.
- Maintain public restrooms (toilets, sinks, floors, lighting, dispensers, etc.)
- Drain / Winterize needed water lines.
- Operate brush hog, mower, string trimmer, chainsaw, etc. in areas that are not covered by lawn maintenance contractor.
- Must have basic knowledge of building maintenance and custodial duties.
- Maintain water heaters and boilers where applicable.
- Replace light bulbs in all PGISD facilities and areas.
- Move furniture and appliances as needed.
- Install doors and minor structure items.
- Maintain simple plumbing repairs in PGISD facilities (toilets, replace faucets, etc.)
- Repair tables, chairs, and any PGISD item.
- Maintain safe environment (i.e. storage, warehouse, etc.)
- Prepare and paint facilities, interior and exterior, as warranted.
- Construct small carpentry items as needed.
- Adjust heating units as required.
- Service hvac units in all PGISD facilities.
- Perform basic sheet rock and carpentry skills.
- Wash exterior windows as needed.
- Get quotes from businesses when purchasing materials, supplies or equipment items.
- Maintain small engines and appliances (brush cutter, lawnmower, tractor, chainsaws, vacuum cleaner, etc.)
- Replace light bulbs in gyms stadiums and parking lots.
- Additional duties that may arise that require basic plumbing, electrical, hvac, carpentry or custodial skills.
Qualifications:
Must possess general knowledge of all maintenance functions, including, but not limited to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, furnace repair, generators, custodial, etc.
- Must have a valid Drivers’ license.
- Must have ability to work independently, without supervision, following written and oral directives. Must be a self-starter, not requiring specific direction to complete job assignments.
- Must have safe work habits, full physical mobility, physical ability to lift heavy objects such as chairs, tables, equipment.
- Must have knowledge of tools, materials, methods and practices in general building maintenance equipment.
- Must display a positive working relationship with the public and staff.
- Education: Minimum of high school diploma
- Experience: Two years of experience working in one or more of the specific knowledge areas listed under Qualifications or such alternatives to the above qualifications that the Dir of Facilities finds acceptable.

Performance Requirements
Required to perform a variety of skilled work in one or more trades in the course of normal maintenance and operation of PGISD facilities.
-Required to be available for overtime, special events, games, and extra duties as assigned.
- Required to perform routine building and grounds maintenance and repair, as directed, to include electrical wiring, switches, faucets, plumbing fixtures, furnaces, carpentry repairs, carpet and vct replacement, sidewalk cleaning, power washing, painting etc.
- Responsible for operation and maintenance of PGISD equipment, i.e., mowers, string trimmer, brush hog, (all equipment related to grounds upkeep.) and all equipment related to duties.
- All other duties as assigned.
