What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraeducator (ESL) position at Pleasant Valley Community School District?
We have the following opening for the 2024-2025 school year:
DISTRICT-WIDE ESL PARAEDUCATOR
- 5.75 paid hrs/day
- Hours TBD
- $17.51/hour after 60-day probationary period
- Start Date: ASAP
TITLE: District ESL Paraeducator
DATE: March 2025
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma with post-secondary education (preferred) and/or experience in areas related to the listed performance responsibilities.
REPORTS TO: District ESL Coordinator and ESL Teacher
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, hours of work based on student need (hours will be between 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
DUTY ASSIGNMENT: Assignments are based on full-day, building will vary based on student need
JOB DUTIES
- Frequent collaboration with the ESL teacher and classroom teachers to discuss student progress and needs (Examples: spend time in ESL small group instruction, conversations with the ESL teacher regarding strategies and student needs, etc.)
- Works with the student and classroom teacher to ensure that student accommodations are followed
- Provides proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude, and general guidance to ELL students
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
- May use assistive technology as well as native language to communicate with students
- Supervising English Learners at lunch/recess as assigned by ESL Teacher
- Maintains professionalism, confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
- Participate in ESL para team meetings and district paraprofessional training
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Salary and work year assigned according to the Letter of Assignment.
EVALUATION
- Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building-level administrator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Medium Work - lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. More physical demands could be possible based on student needs. Stooping and kneeling occasionally. Reaching, talking, and hearing frequently. Must be able to remain mobile throughout the workday. Works in standard office and school building environments.
