The following skills needed to perform with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of care giving of this job in the interest of residents. The ability to:
- Recognize and respond to the needs of residents.
- Make prompt and accurate judgments with regard to resident care.
- Accurately take and record vital signs, including blood pressures.
- Evaluate sensory limitations of residents and adjust care-giving methods to maximize communication.
- Take measures to reduce risk to residents' diagnoses, current condition, etc.
- Observe and assess at the nursing assistant level the physical and psycho-social and safety needs of residents.
- Provides direct care as required.
- Performs special duties as assigned.
- Prepares, administers, documents regularly prescribed medications in accordance with the rules outlined in approved training program.
- Supervises assigned staff and residents in the absence of the Charge Nurse.
- Participate in staff meetings and in-service training as required.
The following job functions have been determined as essential to the position of PCA at Pleasant View Home. Work load demands may require tasks to overlap and the frequency of the tasks may vary.
Provide assistance to residents based on evidence-based best practice per each resident’s comprehensive care plan that is not considered direct hands on medical care, such as:
- Assist residents who are using a wheel chair to move to various areas of the facility.
- Assist with activities planned for the residents.
- Take clothes to the laundry receptacle; put away clean laundry.
- Straighten residents’ rooms with permission by resident by making their bed and arranging personal possessions in closets and drawers.
- Help with inventory of residents’ possessions.
- Clean resident equipment and stock resident supplies as trained/directed.
- Serve water to residents.
- Take meal orders and deliver meals to resident rooms.
- Assist with meal preparation, if requested.
- Assist residents with eating, when directed.
- Accompany residents on field trips.
- Assist with documentation, as directed.
- Assist with the care of pets living within the facility.
- Assist with gardening if time allows.
- Assist residents during shopping trips.
- Perform light housekeeping.
- Sit with residents who are ill, anxious, at risk for falls, or as directed by supervisor.
- Distribute mail to residents.
- Follow all Infection Prevention and Control procedures.
- Identify potential problems/issues/changes regarding residents; report to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Complete compliance training requirements and continuing education provided.
- Learn and follow facility policies and procedures.
- Support facility goals and objectives.
- The employee may be requested to perform other duties or tasks that are not listed but are within the competence and training of the individual, and considered a reasonable extension of this position.
Qualifications
Qualification standards for employment as Certified Nurse Aide at The Pleasant View Home, Inc. have been carefully evaluated using job performance standards that are consistent with equal opportunity for all people applying for or holding this position.
Required Education
Must have a certificate of completion of the state approved Certified Nurse Aide course and be a CNA in good standing with the State of Kansas. The Certified Nurse Aide will meet the minimum age requirements for the State of Kansas.
Training
The Certified Nurse Aide will have completed the training required by the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA), plus the state approved training for qualifications for CNA.
Experience
The facility prefers Certified Nurse Aide to have six (6) months experience working in a nursing home, hospital, home health agency, or other health care facility.
