As the Quality Assurance Engineer, you will assist in the development, implementation, and coordination of administrative functions for the Corporate Quality Assurance Department, Quality Assurance Program, Corporate Customer Feedback system and the ISO-9001 Program.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- In conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager, assists with the planning, development, and administration of quality assurance / control systems.
- Analyze testing and inspection procedures to ensure adequacy and compliance.
- Diagnosing and correcting improper quality control practices using metrology and statistical methods. Conducts capability studies of plant and supplier manufacturing processes.
- Audits internal quality systems for deficiencies.
- Review engineering drawings and specifications to ensure the measurability of key features. Review tolerances of key features to ensure manufacturability. Define measurement methods at plants and suppliers to establish consistency of measurement.
- Represent the QA department in new projects, as required. Aid team in reviewing customer specifications, project-specific quality planning and supplier coordination.
- Develops Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for existing and new products and coordinate implementation with plant Quality Assurance personnel. Includes new testing / inspection techniques and fixture / gauge design.
- Using established specifications, evaluates finished products, purchased products, and raw materials.
- Utilizes physical, mechanical, and electrical testing procedures and inspection equipment to perform routine Quality / Materials Lab tasks.
- Interprets engineering recommendations, customer specifications, and engineering drawings for suppliers or PLP facilities.
- Conducts source inspection of suppliers. Conducts supplier Quality System audits. Works with key suppliers to implement required improvements.
- Investigates field complaints and product failures. Analyzes problems, solutions, or recommendations after proper engineering and laboratory studies. Helps to determine causes of material failures.
- Assists engineers and plant personnel in reducing the instances of nonconformities and the quantity of non-conforming product produced in the plants. Uses Root Cause Analysis and Corrective and Preventive Action tools to effect improvements. Drives reduction in component, WIP, and finished good nonconformities through improvements in process controls, better gauging methods, and product specification rationalization. Follows up on a regular basis until improvements have been verified.
- Assists suppliers who are having difficulty with meeting Quality expectations due to part non-conformance. Uses Root Cause Analysis and Corrective and Preventive Action tools to effect improvements. Follows up with suppliers on a regular basis until improvements have been verified.
- Develops and conducts material test procedures to comply with industry and customer specifications. Prepares and performs analysis in support of product development.
- Maintains the Supplier Risk Assessment and Inspection Level programs.
- Provides support of the Customer Feedback database and follows up with Engineering, PLP plants, suppliers, and Marketing and Sales to verify that an answer has been provided.
- Has familiarity with and implements Lean techniques for continuous improvement.
- Attends technical meetings, conferences, and specialized courses consistent with area of responsibility.
- Effectively identifies and uses software tools as appropriate to the task.
- Trains personnel in inspection, testing, and other techniques.
