ASD Center Based program

LOCATION : Liberty Middle School

HOURS : 35 hours per week

8 : 00am - 3 : 30pm

JOB GOALS :

Works in the ASD center based classroom with students with Autism. Supports students with behavioral needs, or inclusion needs. Assists the classroom teacher or special education support personnel, in the implementation of instructional programs, technology, and management of behavior of student with Autism. Will be required to keep behavioral and educational data and manage students behavior plans.

M INI M U M QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with parents, students and support personnel.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good attendance record.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed.
  • Ability to engage in problem identification and solving.
  • Experience working with children with autism preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assists the special education teacher and support personnel to manage aggressive behavior and implement behavior plans for students with Autism
  • Manages both behavioral and instructional logs.
  • Assigned to work in various general and special education classrooms with student(s) with Autism supporting entire classroom or assisting a specific student with Autism.
  • Functions under the direct supervision of special education teacher and has contact with special education professions in developing work assignments, job responsibilities, and services to the student.
  • Performs those health care, instructional or other related assignments developed by a special education professional specific to the student.
  • Assists the special education classroom teacher, special education support personnel in the implementation of health care, instructional programs and the management of aggressive student behavior.
  • Operates equipment used in the special education program for the production of printed or other audio-visual instructional materials; including computer technology and computer programs.
  • Works collaboratively with special education professionals to help modify assignments to fit student needs.
  • Performs other tasks as directed and supervised by other special education professionals, including sensory activities, oral motor activities and administering medication.
  • Supports students in the ASD classroom as well as in general education activities, inclusion, lunch / eating, recess, electives, bathroom, dressing, arrival / dismissal and any other aspects of the student's day.
  • Monitors established goals and objections for the student.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned that could entail toileting and feeding of a student with disabilities.
  • Collects data on student(s).
  • Medicaid recording and submission when required.
  • Supervise students in the lunchroom, halls and outside.
  • Provides clinic / first aid / medication support to students.
  • Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

    Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.
