POSITION : Middle School Counselor .50 at Liberty Middle School and Post-Secondary Advisor .50 at Salem High School
QUALIFICATIONS :
Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Guidance Counselor (NT) endorsement or Michigan School Counselor license.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES for Middle School Counseling position :
1. Implements middle school counselor curriculum.
2. Provides support service to individual students, small groups, and classrooms.
3. Consults with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
4. Refers students with severe problems to the appropriate district or community resources.
5. Assists with scheduling.
6. Organizes and assists with major testing situations as needed.
7. Attends after school activities as needed.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES for Post-Secondary Advisor position :
1. Collaborates weekly with the Post-Secondary Coordinator and Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (P-CEP) staff or as needed to ensure academic and social success for students.
2. Assists Early Middle College (EMC) students in developing personalized academic plans that align with their career goals and meet the requirements of both high school and college course plans.
3. Monitors student progress in both high school and college classes, identifying potential academic challenges and providing interventions.
4. Conducts weekly / biweekly EMC student check-ins.
5. Advises EMC students on course selection, ensuring they are taking appropriate college-level courses while meeting high school graduation requirements.
6. Reviews and adjust P-CEP courses as necessary.
7. Creates personal curriculums when appropriate for EMC students.
8. Conducts career exploration activities to help EMC students identify potential career paths and related college majors.
9. Conducts monthly individual EMC counseling sessions to address academic, personal, and social challenges faced by students.
10. Collaborates with other school staff, including teachers, administrators, and parents, to support student success.
11. Collaborates with the EMC program coordinator to develop and implement program initiatives.
12. Maintains accurate EMC student records and track student progress through the program.
13. Promotes the EMC program to prospective students and families.
14. Supports students with college and career readiness curriculum.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work collaboratively with colleagues in professional learning communities.
Knowledge of and practical experience in research based instructional practices.
Knowledge and practice with formative and summative assessments to evaluate and improve student achievement.
Ability to implement school district curriculum with consistency.
Work closely with school leaders to analyze student assessment data and use data to inform instruction.
Collaborate in grade level teams to discuss student work, share best practices, and ensure student mastery of standards.
Form and maintain relationships with students’ families.
Participate in on-going professional development in the spirit of continuous improvement.
