ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Safety Manager contributes to the mission of Plymouth Housing by effectively managing, and executing Plymouth Housing’s safety and security program and plans that ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming place for all who live, work and visit. The position is responsible for evaluating practices coordinating training sessions, monitoring safety compliance, investigating incidents and accidents;, and providing recommendations for improvement. The Safety Manager works closely with all internal stakeholders and may be required to respond to safety incidents at all hours. This position serves a vital role supporting an equitable and inclusive organizational culture and fostering a positive employee experience.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO BE DOING IN THIS ROLE AT PLYMOUTH HOUSING
Leadership and Management
- You will work closely with the Crisis Intervention Manager providing guidance and motivation to meet goals and outcomes, and to coordinate safety and security efforts.
- You will cultivate and support a workplace which values and supports a culturally and ethnically diverse work environment.
- You will partner and collaborate across all functional areas, including but not limited to Risk Management, Human Resources, Information Technologies, PSH, and Administrative Services, to coordinate and administer strategies and procedures, that improve staff and resident safety and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and contractual agreements.
- You will assist in evaluating, updating and refining safety and security policies and procedures and ensuring consistent compliance across the organization.
- You will provide input and operational insight into the overall safety and security strategy.
Safety and Security Management
- You will regularly maintain on-site presence and travel to buildings across the portfolio and identify opportunities for improvement related to maintaining appropriate levels of safety and security.
- You will investigate safety incidents, accidents, and injuries to determine cause and prepare prevention recommendations. Conduct systematic safety inspections to detect hazards and unsafe employment conditions, follow-up with recommendations to management for corrective measures.
- You will ensure that all safety and health rules, standards and procedures are observed; conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions; arrange for, conduct, and ensure that safety investigations are formally reported.
- You will work with the Facilities Manager(s) to support the Hazardous Waste Management Plan.
- You will implement effective safety policies and procedures and inspire continued engagement from all staff.
- You will conduct job safety and / or hazard analyses.
- You will participate in After Action Reviews.
- You will manage deliverables, relationships, and service level agreements for safety and security systems and features.
- In coordination with Crisis Intervention Team and Learning and Development, you will coordinate and conduct training and presentations for health and safety, and security matters.
Committee Coordination
- You will coordinate and participate in the organization’s Safety Committee.
- You will coordinate strategies with PSH, Behavioral Health and/or Property Management to address resident(s) who are creating unsafe working conditions for staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience managing safety and security.
- Management experience desired.
- Experience in the nonprofit sector, and or social services is desired.
- Familiarity with working with community based safety resources is desired.
