QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Completion of an approved Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy program, Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. 2.Valid License from Department of Allied Health in Physical/Occupational Therapy. 3.Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to administrators, parents, teachers, students, other school staff and visitors. 4.Possess good communication skills both verbal and written. 5.Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. 6.A sense of humor and a proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with all staff members, students, and with the larger educational community. 7.CPR certified & may be trained/trainable in non-violent crisis intervention model 8.May be required to physically support students in lifting and positioning them. 9.Experience with a variety of equipment that may be needed in the school setting for students with more significant physical needs (i.e.: walkers, standers, wheelchairs, Hoyer lift, evacuation chair, braces, etc.) 10.Such alternative to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Program Manager and Special Education Administration. JOB GOALS: 1.The Motor Therapist provides educationally relevant unique therapeutic services to enhance the goals and objectives of eligible students helping them to access and participate in the curriculum and life of the school. The Motor Therapist is primarily responsible for creating and implementing the therapeutic program. 2.Provide a safe and supportive educational environment for all students and staff as well as providing classroom support to teachers and students PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to): 1.Participates in/follows all federal and state mandated procedures and timelines for the identification of students requiring special education services within the school setting, including the administration of appropriate formal and informal assessment tools/measures based on the suspected area of disability. 2.Develops and implements an appropriate Individualized Education Plan for all students that are determined eligible for special education services. This includes the creation of short and long term goals, based on assessment data and targeted curriculum standards, or all of the students’ areas of identified disability. 3.Participates in all federal and state mandated procedures and timelines for case management for all identified students, i.e. team meetings and liaison to regular education settings. 4.Schedules, meets and provides services to eligible students in the locations and at the time designated. Travel between schools required. 5.Utilizing developmental frameworks will support teachers and students in the inclusive setting to develop underlying sensory motor skills. 6.Collaborate, consult, and trains staff and paraeducators working with eligible students for carryover of therapeutic techniques. 7.Plans interventions that meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students. 8.Creates an environment that is inclusive for all learning styles to enhance student engagement and academic achievement conducive to learning student engagement. 9.Demonstrates high quality written communication through written evaluative assessments, progress notes and IEP’s. 10.Promotes independence in school related self-care activities. 11.Observe, problem solve and suggest positioning techniques to enhance educational participation and maximize function. 12.Utilize task analysis to suggest techniques to the educational team with regard to school related self-care, pre-writing, pre-cutting, and other skills needed for school performance. 13.Promote motor development and student participation in everyday routines and activities focusing on functional mobility, safe and efficient access to educational activities and natural learning environments. 14.Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media. 15.Implements the school districts strategic plan and individual school improvement plans. 16.Evaluates and documents student work on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. 17.Seeks the assistance of district specialists as needed and required. 18.Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 19.Participates in activities that support the school-based Medicaid program. 20.Provide evaluations and progress notes etc. in a timely manner. 21.Supports team in development of and follows individual student safety plans, IEP’s, 504’s, health care plans, etc. 22.Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. 23.Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. 24.Strives to participate in professional development opportunities to remain current in the educational field. 25.Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. 26.Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with others. 27.Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, colleagues, and parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of eligible students. 28.Performs other related tasks and assumes other related responsibilities as may from time to time be as assigned by the Principal and/or Program Manager. 29.Develop and implement and model physical management plan for daily classroom routines and train staff in safe implementation. 30.Contribute to plan and training of safe transfer when appropriate. 31.Heavy lifting of equipment and/or students may be required.
