2.3 INTERMEDIATE - MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or institution, with a major in educational administration. 2. A valid Massachusetts License to practice as a secondary or intermediate-middle school principal or evidence of verifiability for the position. 3. A minimum of three years of successful experience in public school administration and supervision, preferably in an intermediate school setting. 4. A minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher. 5. Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 6. A proven ability to positively motivate staff, students and parents. 7. Must possess a sense of humor. 8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Department may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: SUPERVISES: JOB GOALS: Superintendent of Schools All personnel serving in the assigned school. To create a school climate so that all students and staff can actively participate in the pursuit of excellence in education. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to): 1. Serves as the chief administrative officer of the school in the day-to-day operation of the building program. 2. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate at the school with an emphasis on student and teacher performance. 3. Promotes instructional practices responsive to student needs and ensures adequate and appropriate instructional support for students and staff. 4. Consults with all relevant program managers, including the Director of Special Education, to plan, implement, and appropriately supervise programs within the building to enhance individual student education and development. 5. Establishes guides for maintaining proper student conduct and discipline. 6. Implements a Curriculum Accommodation Plan to meet the needs of diverse learners in the general education program. 7. Plans, organizes and directs implementation of all school activities. 8. Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs. 9. Leads the recruiting, screening, employment, assigning and training of new staff members and assists in their development as appropriate. 10. Coordinates or supervises support services as maintenance, security, food services, recreational programs, financial and accounting functions, library activities, etc. 11. Implements and supervises the special education programs at the school. 12. Supervises the teaching process and evaluations of all staff members. 13. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the administration of the school. 14. Participates in meetings as are required or appropriate. 15. Prepares and submits budgetary requests and manages expenditures of funds of the school. 16. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school-sponsored activities, functions and athletic events. 17. Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities 18. Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation. 19. Works with various members of the Administration on district-wide issues, such as transportation, special services, etc. 20. Conducts staff meetings to keep personnel informed of policy changes, new programs, etc. 21. Keeps the Superintendent informed of the activities and issues of the school community. 22. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by immediate supervisors.
