What you’ll be doing:
This position operates equipment in the Waste-Water Treatment Plant to ensure continued compliance with air and water permits and the Risk Management Plan. This position is responsible for collecting required samples, performing inspections, and maintaining records needed to support permits and other regulatory requirements set by the EPA, OSHA, and DNR.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Operate and maintain WWTP equipment, perform daily checks and maintenance tasks
- Monitor pickling process and associated sampling, monitor pickling and alkaline equipment, operate metal extraction system processing pickle liquor
- Draw scheduled samples, work with third party lab to process the samples and track results. Perform in-house reading and inspection on a monthly schedule.
- Monitor activities in the plant to ensure compliance with SSPCC, DOT and SWPP.
- Participate in the Spill Response Team
- Oversee all inventories, purchasing, loading and unloading of any caustic materials – Hazardous waste management.
- Perform other duties and assignments as assigned.
Some things you’ll need:
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience rebuilding diaphragm and impeller pumps
- Strong background in process piping systems for caustics
- Good attention to detail and ability to organize complex paperwork
- Focus on safety within the pickle area
- Clear understanding of air & water permits as well as other EPA, OSHA, and DNR requirements for reporting
- The ability to review the results from sampling, readings and inspections for any potential conflicts
- Work with operators in the plant to maintain all spill prevention and oil controls. Supporting the universal waste programs
- 24 hours technician certification in Hazardous Waste Handling
- Clear understanding of RMP and safety aspects of handling Hazardous Material
- Must be computer literate and able to use programs such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Access
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with environmental systems for at least 5 years
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Work Environment
- May be exposed to moderate noise intensity
- May be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, smoke (Not over OSHA permissible exposure levels)
- Safety training and equipment are provided by Plymouth in accordance with applicable law, industry standards and company policy
- Will be required to wear applicable PPE
Physical Demands

The employee is continually expected to stand and walk for periods up to 10 hours (overtime as required) per shift with two 10 minute and one 20-minute break period. The employee must be able to do this without the aid of any physical or motorized devices. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, or squat to work on equipment or perform manufacturing processes. This must be able to be done in a narrow or tight space if required. The employee must be capable of ascending and descending stairs to cross production lines and work on equipment. The employee must be able to step down un-assisted to work on equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
