Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Lead CNC Lathe Programmer to join our precision machining team. This role is responsible for programming, setting up, and optimizing multi-axis CNC lathe operations to meet production goals with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and quality. If you're experienced with live-tooling lathes and MasterCam software, and enjoy leading by example in a hands-on role, we’d love to connect.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create CNC programs using MasterCam for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis lathe machines.
- Set up and operate Mori Seiki and Miyano live-tooling and multi-spindle lathes with Fanuc controls.
- Support CNC operators by providing technical guidance and resolving production issues.
- Perform first article inspections and ensure consistent quality throughout each production run.
- Use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools to verify part specifications and tolerances.
- Review blueprints and job specs to determine proper machining processes, tools, and cutting parameters.
- Conduct trial runs and refine existing programs to enhance machine performance and reduce cycle times.
- Carry out minor maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with shop standards.
- Assist in onboarding and training new team members on machine setup and programming best practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical training or apprenticeship in machining/CNC programming preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship required due to contract requirements.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience with CNC lathe programming and setup, including live tooling.
- Strong experience with Mori Seiki and Miyano lathes and Fanuc control systems.
- Leadership experience is a plus but not required.
- In-depth understanding of machining techniques, metal properties, and tooling strategies.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Solid math and analytical skills, with attention to detail and precision.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a proactive mindset.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.
- Flexibility to work overtime or weekends when needed.
