SUMMARY:
Assists the department VP and Director of Business Operations in day to day business, operating and financial planning, development, budget input, financial analysis, operating and process analysis, and special projects to meet the goals and objectives of the business segment Operating and Business Plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for leading the development, coordination, and management of business segment budgeting, re-forecasting and expenditures, developing financial and operating metric reports, analyzing the reports and providing guidance to all leaders within the business segment, as well as providing financial and operating information for rate case development
Manages cross-functional processes and analysis to provide operating unit budget/actual monitoring, analysis and reporting
Manages the consolidation of executive and management reporting analytics for Business Segment to provide an understanding of the business, its market, and its operations, for improved decision-making
Leads the staff assistant, administrative support, and expediter functions
Participates in development of the business segment strategy, business plan, operating plan and goals with the assistance of the Leadership Team to ensure strategic alignment and leverage synergies in attainment of financial and operational goals
Facilitates development of departmental business plans to ensure strategic alignment, including facilitating the development of action plans to include specific objectives, expected outcomes, responsibilities, timelines and methods to monitor and evaluate the plan.
Assists department VP and Director of Business Operations or assume leadership role in special projects and assignments as necessary including process improvement projects and initiatives.
Manages and coordinates with key personnel to ensure consistent, timely and accurate budgeting, re-forecasting, accounting, analyzing and reporting of financial and operational activities; leads the monthly reporting process for the VP.
Develops business case scenarios and validate financial models for process improvement initiatives and financial analysis of operations projects; develops financial and technical decision models and cost/benefit approach to decision-making to provide a framework for data driven solutions
Provides financial and/or technical analysis and recommendations to support financial decisions; leads and participates in cross-functional teams, evaluates and communicates impact of alternative decision options, financial, performance, reliability, etc.
COMPETENCIES:
Extensive knowledge of accounting, income and non-income taxes, finance, business, and economic principles and theories
Ability to quickly gain a basic knowledge and understanding of electric transmission and distribution, electric production, wholesale marketing operations, and utility accounting
Substantial knowledge and extensive experience in the application of economic, financial, and statistical theory and modeling
Ability to conceptualize and develop solutions to problems and issues in an unstructured environment
Highly developed leadership skills
Advanced interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with emphasis in accounting, business, finance or economics, with five to seven years of progressive experience in directly applicable and related functions, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
Master¿s degree is preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for direct supervision of staff assistants, expediters and support personnel. Appraises performance, rewards and disciplines employees, addresses complaints, and resolves problems.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively with senior management and develop collaborative working relationships with various departments
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various groups
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software
Working knowledge of financial planning software highly desirable
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to efficiently and effectively manage processes and projects.
DECISION MAKING:
Assignments are broad in scope, complex in nature, involve a wide cross section of operating personnel, and have fixed completion timelines. Work continually presents unique situations with conflicting priorities of participating parties, which require original and creative interpersonal and analytical solutions. Extensive independent judgment must be exercised to meet functional responsibilities, while maintaining continuing, positive, and mutually supportive work relationships.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regularly required to sit up to 2/3 of the time, as well as talk and listen for long periods of time. Manual dexterity is required. Requires close vision and distance vision. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
