Cold Storage Forklift Driver

SUMMARY: The Cold Storage Lift Truck Operator’s primary responsibilities are to operate the lift truck in a safe manner and ensure the safety of others, load / unload trailers, stack product in warehouse, pick product from the warehouse in a timely manner, help others when needed, work in the freezer as well as outside the freezer. Temperature ranges from -10 degrees F to Ambient temperature.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other comparable duties may be assigned.

· Position forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, totes, skids, boxes, products, or materials; load, move, unload, stack and/or unstack said items between designated areas.

· Fill fuel tank, change/recharge batteries, and perform an inspection of equipment prior to operation as directed. Report equipment malfunctions to designated personnel.

· Properly account for use of products and materials through computer and hand-written reports and RF Scanning equipment and maintain accurate records as required.

· Assist other drivers and general plant employees, perform non-driving labor as assigned.

· Maintain safe and sanitary work area.

· Maintain an accurate inventory in the warehouse/bin codes.

· Use RF Scanning equipment, read and understand reports used for inventory, shipping, receiving, production orders.

· Set up materials for processing.

· Use forklift to unload/load trailers in a timely manner to ensure product integrity

· Stack, pick, receive products following company policies and guidelines in a timely manner to ensure product integrity.

· Ability to use attachments such as “Slip sheet/Clamp attachment”, “Rotator”, “Barrel Clamp head”.

Other duties as requested including non-forklift driving work as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to pass a general math test relevant to a warehouse. May be required to perform a warehouse skills test.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Less than High school education. At least three months work related experience and/or training in operation of equipment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents in English. Ability to legibly write routine reports and correspondence in English.

Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and supervisor.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to take a general math test and pass.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to analyze and anticipate production requirements. Ability to interpret Company inventory procedures.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to work independently with occasional or minimal supervision. Ability to work overtime and weekends. Ability to work any shift. Ability to practice and emphasize safety to co-workers in performance of all job functions. Ability to work in cold storage room 50 minutes continuously. Must be at least 18 years of age.
