Position Summary Professional Driver
Will safely operate a commercial, combination, Class A vehicle in day to day intrastate operations providing service in the delivery of a variety of commodities to and from assigned locations and perform all related duties associated with the delivery of freight.
1. Must meet all federal and state requirements for certification and CDL licensing for Class A, combination vehicle with air brakes, including a current DOT medical physical meeting the requirements set forth by CFR 391.41.
2. Must have satisfactory, verifiable previous and/or appropriate training in intrastate commercial, Class A vehicle operation, and the transportation of freight.
3. Must be able to properly load, unload and secure cargo including all related duties. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds as required. Must be able to stow cartons or merchandise overhead that weighs as much as 60 pounds.
4. Able to perform duties requiring employee to repeatedly bend at the waist, neck, wrist and shoulder: twist and rotate hands, elbows and forearms. Ability to grip and grasp repeatedly and operate foot pedals.
5. Able to climb to a height of 4-10 feet. Balancing and accelerated physical activity in awkward positions. Driver may enter and exit cab 10-12 times per day. Cab level is generally 40-60 inches from the ground level, with entry and exit achieved by the assistance of one or two steps and/or handholds.
6. Able to work and drive for extended periods of time, up to maximum allowable times under DOT regulations, in a safe manner under a variety of conditions, including nighttime driving.
7. Ability to hook and unhook various tractor/trailer combinations by lowering and raising landing gear, also opening and closing cargo doors.
8. Able to safely and correctly operate a combination, Class A vehicle under all types of circumstances, including intercity travel and maneuvering in the close confines of customers facilities.
9. Able to accurately and legible complete all required paper work associated with the delivery of freight as well as maintain a daily record of hours of service log according to the Federal DOT, state and company requirements.
10. Able to read, understand and apply information relating to trip planning for the delivery of freight: able to read and use a road atlas, city maps and other geographical documents to plan trip. Able to communicate information for assignments, directions and safety.
11. Ability to positively respond to and interact with company personnel, customers, warehousemen and the general public in day to day operations.
12. Able to appraise, evaluate, and adequately respond to environmental strain and emotional stress, having memory, reasoning, attention, judgement, coordination and functional control at all times.
13. Ability to perform any and all other tasks assigned by management for which the employee is qualified and physically able to perform.
