What are the responsibilities and job description for the Exercise Physiologist position at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital?
Full-Time Position | Day Shift
The Exercise Physiologist is responsible for supervising exercise testing, assisting in supervising exercise training sessions, and supporting outpatient progressive ambulation and patient education.
Responsibilities
- Conduct exercise tests and provide individualized written exercise prescriptions for clients, including those with various health conditions.
- Supervise Phase II and Phase III exercise training sessions for outpatient therapy.
- Educate and counsel clients and their families on exercise, disease knowledge, and necessary lifestyle changes related to cardiac and pulmonary conditions.
- Assess program effectiveness, stay informed of current trends, and recommend or implement changes as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Cardiac Rehabilitation team to develop, implement, monitor, and assess programs, special events, and community health promotion activities.
- Participate in educational programs to enhance professional skills and knowledge in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

- Obtain and demonstrate the skills necessary for developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, and care for identified patient age groups.
- Demonstrate competency in:
- Interpreting patient needs.
- Understanding growth and development.
- Providing a range of treatments specific to the patients’ needs.

- Maintain and document all required education.

Education
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree
- Preferred: Master’s Degree
(Candidates currently enrolled in a Master’s program with expected graduation within 12 months may also be considered.)
Experience
- Preferred: At least 1 year of experience with:
- Maximal functional capacity exercise testing.
- Leading and supervising exercise programs for cardiac and pulmonary patients.
- New graduates will also be considered.
Credentials
- Basic Life Support (BLS): Required within 30 days of hire.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS): Required within 30 days of hire.
