Road Crew Member

Pocono Township is seeking a qualified applicant to serve in a full-time position as a member of the Pocono Township Road Crew. This position requires the operation of heavy equipment and performance of manual labor to complete the tasks of the Public Works Department. The position reports directly to the Road Foreman.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform manual labor in a safe and efficient manner including, but not limited to, snow plowing; digging; raking; mowing grass; shoveling snow; road construction and maintenance; janitorial services; construction; trimming and cutting trees; equipment maintenance; equipment care and cleaning; and transporting equipment/materials.
• Safely and skillfully operate a variety of equipment, tools, machines and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
• Ability to listen, follow directions and perform job functions with or without supervision. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Adhere to all rules, regulations and procedures necessary to maintain required licenses, certificates, and/or registrations.
• Adhere to PennDOT and Township safety rules and regulations.
• Carry out job functions without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
• Maintain respectful communication and actions with fellow employees, supervisors and Township residents.
• Understand and comply with drug use/abuse policies and procedures.
• Exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
• Maintain acceptable attendance standards.

Minimum Requirements to Hold Position:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of snow plowing procedures.
• Valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B.
• Able to operate standard public works department equipment including, but not limited to, snowplow truck, cinder spreader, tractor, backhoe, roller, paver, pick-up truck, lawn mowers (zero turn and push) and landscaping/turf equipment.
• Ability to quickly respond to after-hours call-outs as necessary to respond to emergency situations that may arise, including storm damage, snow storms and power outages.
• Strong mechanical skills (maintaining and repairing trucks and equipment) a plus.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to walk, sit, and stand regularly; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to lift, push, and/or pull various items up to 60 pounds in weight as needed.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

• $23.18 for the first 6 months of employment; $26.07 months 7-12; and $28.97 per hour after one (1) year employment.
