About the Position

The Site Safety Manager monitors workplace activities to ensure that workers comply with company policies, client requirements and government safety regulations. The Site Safety Manager is responsible for policy development, safety inspections, safety training and compliance with the federal and state Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and any other applicable standards.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Daily field safety management of field personnel, subcontractors, prime contractors and suppliers
  • Collaborate with project team members to ensure that safety compliance is maintained while supporting other initiatives by developing innovative solutions to address hazards, develop controls and promote worker well-being.
  • Partner with superintendent to ensure that safety milestones, AHAs, preconstruction meetings are built into the 4-week schedule.
  • Oversee and ensure the completion of job briefings, morning tailboard meetings, toolbox talks, equipment inspection, peer observations, good catch near misses are completed daily or timely per occurrence.
  • Mentorship of junior field staff including project engineers, assistant superintendents, foreman and trade workers to ensure they can develop and progress in their career paths. Provide coaching opportunities and feedback to respective supervisors
  • Develop and implement safety programs and policies to ensure the safety of people and property. Monitor compliance to reduce accidents and related costs and productivity losses. Review and update the safety program as needed.
  • Develop a crisis management program to ensure the safety of people and property during and following a catastrophic event. Develop site specific safety and emergency plans, as well as special emphasis programs.
  • Inspect worksites for safety hazards and proper selection/use/maintenance of personal protective equipment; develop controls as necessary.
  • Conduct accident investigations, complete related reports, determine root causes, recommend corrective actions and share lessons learned with all employees.
  • Logging daily detailed and accurate field reports in designated software’s with pictures, in conjunction with project management, field operations and quality personnels reports.
  • Identify training needs, develop appropriate safety education programs and deliver training to management, supervisors and employees. Proactively solicit feedback from workers to make improvements on existing programs or create new programs. Ensure new employees receive safety orientation.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable state/local regulations; review standards, implement plans to meet those standards and follow all record-keeping requirements. Assist in creating statistical reports for management on a regular basis. Manage all OSHA site inspections and the defense of any issued citations.
  • Arrange for industrial hygiene surveys to ensure healthy workplace conditions as needed.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to managers and supervisors with regard to safety management, safe behavior rewards programs, as well as recommendations for corrective action.
  • Participate and be active in Preconstruction Meetings, Owner and Progress Meetings, Pay Application Meetings, Subcontractor Coordination Meetings, Pre-Installation Meetings
  • Coordinate claims management activities with management and the insurance provider.
  • Interact and collaborate with the Owner and Architect to ensure clients expectations are met and satisfaction achieved
  • If any of these responsibilities or tasks are delegated to another project team member, it is ultimately the responsibility of this position to ensure that the task is executed to the expectations of the company and client.

Qualifications

OSHA 30 certification and safety-related education and experience is preferred. Additional qualifications may vary based on project requirements and approval by project stakeholders, such as U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Additional Information

Compensation: $70,000 - $116,000 annually
At Poettker Construction, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
