Director of Finance
Point Blue Conservation Science is seeking an experienced Finance Director to play a key role in financial and strategic planning, risk management and operations management. Working closely with the CFO, the Director will lead to the continuous improvement of Point Blue’s financial and operations infrastructure as the organization continues to experience significant growth. The Finance Director directly supervises a team of 5 contracts/grants administration. This is a full-time with a salary range of $140,000 to $165,000 depending on qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning and Budgeting

  • Work with the CFO to manage the budgeting and strategic planning process, establishing standards and financial goals for the organization.
  • Lead and manage the budgeting and forecasting process. Ensure timeliness and reliability. Work with Group Directors to identify progress, risks and action steps.
  • Work with program staff to optimize funding sources and budget allocation.
  • Lead management of Vena, Point Blue’s budgeting system, including improvements and systems changes. Maintain/upgrade the existing models/ tools for budgeting and evaluating new proposals.
  • Develop and manage an ongoing education and training program for budget managers on forecasting, best practices, tools and techniques for organizational and proposal budgeting
  • Works with the CFO and Controller to support the Board Finance and Audit committees.

Contracts Team Leadership

  • Lead, manage and supervise a team of 4 Contracts/Grants Managers and one Accounting Administrator.
  • Provide training, guidance, and direction to staff on compliance, risk management and accounting decisions. Assign, schedule, and review work.
  • Understand needs of internal customers and ensure internal needs are met while maintaining adequate financial discipline and controls.

Risk Management

  • Partner with the CFO in evaluating and managing Point Blue’s financial risks and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage all the commercial liability insurance lines.
  • Work with the HR team to help manage the cost of benefit programs

Key Requirements:

  • Nonprofit experience in a senior financial leadership role, with significant exposure to the management of public funding agreements. Strong knowledge of Federal OMB CFR-200 requirements. Experience managing complex federal and state grants and contracts from conception to conclusion.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP Accounting practices and procedures.
  • Thorough experience and knowledge of cost accounting and financial management systems.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in professional judgment. Ability to understand the business and financial implications of decisions.
  • Personal initiative and collaborative interpersonal skills to work in a diverse, multi-cultural team. Ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and influence budget decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform as team leader, be self-motivated, be resourceful. Must be able to effectively manage multiple tasks with conflicting priorities and time constraints.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills. Excellent verbal and listening skills; strong oral presentation ability.
  • Proficient user of financial software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience in non-profit finance accounting, grant administration, or related field.
