Commitment to Service
Service encompasses all aspects of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indian’s governmental operations. Every employee shares the responsibility to provide exemplary service, dignity, and respect to all Tribal Citizens, the Tribal Council, and staff members. To this end, all employees have an obligation to identify and report any service problems, issues, or concerns and through designated channels, initiate, recommend, and actively participate in solutions.
Position Summary: Responsible for organizing lake aquatic activities, setup and the cleanup of aquatic equipment, and the safety of all aquatic participants.
Essential Functions:
- Organize, set up and direct aquatic activities.
- Evaluate the swimming capability of each Camper before any aquatic activities occur.
- Based on the evaluation, classify each Camper based on swimming capability.
- Enforce all safety rules and procedures governing aquatic activities.
- Help with setup and cleanup of aquatic area.
- Maintain good order among Lifeguard Assistants and Campers engaged in aquatic activities.
- Train and supervise Lifeguard Assistants in performance of their duties.
- Inspect and evaluate swimming and waterfront areas prior to any aquatic activity.
- Ensure that proper rescue and first aid equipment and supplies are available at aquatic activity sites.
- Ensure that all equipment used for aquatic activities is maintained in good working order.
- Be present during all aquatic activities.
- While serving in such capacity, not engage in any activity that will distract from performance of responsibilities.
- Ensure that the swimming and waterfront areas, are kept clean, organized and free of litter or safety hazards.
- Ensure the care, safety, protection, welfare and health of Campers.
- Respond to Camper behavior issues in accordance with Section 5.2 of the Manual.
- Assist in maintaining accurate Culture Camp records, in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies, including the Manual.
- Understand and comply with all applicable laws, regulations and policies, including the Manual.
- Perform all other duties assigned by, and report to, the Assistant Camp Directors.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Perform other related functions as assigned.
Equipment:
- Standard lifeguard equipment
- Standard lake aquatic equipment
- Lifeguard kayak
Position Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have lifeguard certification (if expired must recertify before start of camp.)
- First Aid and CPR certified.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks without direct supervision.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift aquatic equipment such as canoes, kayaks, etc.
- Ability to be lakefront/on kayak for up to 6 hours.
