ABOUT POLAR FIELD SERVICES, INC.
We are a rare company. Since 1999, we've been taking our clients wherever they need to go, no matter how remote the location or challenging the conditions may be. We plan their expeditions, keep them safe in places that are anything but, and supply food, shelter, power, water, and waste removal. We then return the site to such a pristine condition no one would ever know we were there. We haven't been everywhere. Just a lot of places most people haven't.
Our team is made up of skilled people who are passionate about supporting cutting-edge science and making a difference in our world. We are looking to add more adventurous souls to our team!
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FIELD CAMP MANAGER
In this seasonal remote research management position, you play a crucial role in the daily functions at Raven Camp. Every day, you are responsible for all aspects of the operation, maintenance, and management of the camp facilities and staff. As the camp leader, you complete a variety of vital tasks, including ensuring equipment is maintained and operated safely, managing camp flight support, performing snow grooming, and planning put-in and pull-out missions. You also provide orientation to all new camp arrivals, ensuring the safety of everyone at camp.
The Air National Guard 109th uses Raven Camp for flight training missions, so you keep lines of communication open with their personnel about any daily requirements they have in order to better manage the daily schedule. You also assist with any peripheral Air National Guard 109th training support requests, including Arctic survival training and night flying. A dedicated team player, you participate in all other aspects of camp support, including cooking, equipment operation, digging, camp construction, and winterization. With keen attention to detail, you maintain proper documentation as well as manage camp cargo and resupply needs. Nothing gets by you, no matter how small.
An adventurer at heart, you don't mind "roughing it" when necessary. Sometimes you'll sleep comfortably in a dorm with a roommate; at other times, you might bunk down in a hut that's -20℉. There might be power or water restrictions, and dining options aren't exactly 5-star. But you love the excitement and wild beauty of this isolated place, and even on your most challenging days, you don't regret taking this opportunity. You get great satisfaction in knowing your contributions are benefiting a worthwhile mission !
