What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mid-Level Piping Designer position at Polaris Engineering?
I. SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Mid-Level Piping Designer collaborates with engineers, project managers, project leads, and other stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of piping systems that meet project requirements and industry standards.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create detailed designs and layouts for piping systems, including process piping, utility piping, and distribution systems, considering project specifications, codes, standards, and safety requirements
- Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD or similar tools, to develop accurate 2D and 3D models, drawings, and isometric views of piping systems
- Assist in the selection of appropriate piping materials based on project requirements, including considerations such as pressure, temperature, fluid characteristics, and compatibility
- Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to gather project requirements, review designs, address technical challenges, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including technical specifications, material lists, bill of materials (BOM), and as-built drawings, to support the construction, operation, and maintenance of piping systems
- Identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, and improved efficiency in piping layouts and system configurations, while ensuring functionality and safety.
- Perform quality checks and reviews on piping designs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements and industry standards
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, advancements in piping design, and emerging technologies to enhance your skills and contribute to the continuous improvement of design practices
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree in Drafting & Design or minimum of 8 years of progressive design experience
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCad, CAD Worx or similar tools preferred
- Strong knowledge of piping design principles, codes, standards, and industry best practices through proven experience as a Piping Designer or similar role
- Familiarity with various piping materials, fittings, valves, and equipment
- Excellent understanding of process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and isometric drawings
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental considerations in piping design.
- Familiarity with 3D modeling software and stress analysis tools is an advantage
- Ability to interpret and work with engineering drawings, specifications and project requirements
IV. REPORTING REQUIREMENTS:
Reports to the Piping Design Coordinator
V. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift to 40 pounds at times
- Must be able to work in facilities, climbing ladder, stairs, and walking in warm temperatures
