Job Description
The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.
The Medical Division operates 24/7 with the primary responsibility of overseeing the health and well-being of all members of the service including both medical and psychological. The main office is located at 59-17 Junction Blvd. Queens; however, the Psychological Evaluation Section also operates off-site to monitor and evaluate uniformed members of service while sick or on restricted duty. The Psychological Evaluation Section conducts fitness for duty evaluations, trauma response, special operations support and ensures members of service receives appropriate behavioral health services.
Under direction of the Chief Surgeon, would provide services that include assisting Police Surgeons in conducting examinations and evaluate illness and injury in uniformed members of service (including recruits assigned to the Police Academy), supervising and engaging in all aspects of the nursing activities of Department Registered Nurses, including case management in the NYPD Medical Clinics. In addition, participation in screening health fairs, vaccination and lifestyle modification programs on the Mobile Health Van, extramural health efforts in collaboration with area hospitals, and disaster management mobilizations; assist in the development of programs and in formulating and interpreting policies and procedures; selects, reviews and recommends educational material for staff use, and assists in development and administration of staff education, in-service training and orientation programs for nursing and auxiliary staff.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York state license as a Registered Nurse, a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited college and a master's degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related field, plus four years of recent experience in public health or hospital nursing or a related field; at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive, consultative or educational capacity, or in supervision of professional public health nursing personnel working in any of the above mentioned areas; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to ""1"" above. However, all candidates must possess a valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse, and a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited college; and must possess the 18 months of specialized experience as described in ""1"" above.
Preferred Skills
Candidates who are Licensed Nurse Practitioners are preferred.
