Position Summary
Provide temporary detainment and transportation of prisoners; prevent escapes and other criminal acts; ensure public safety while controlling the custody of prisoners; ensure the safe transportation of prisoners in accordance with the established standards of Albuquerque Police Department and perform a variety of other duties relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
High school diploma or GED required.
Post-secondary education in law enforcement, criminal justice or related discipline is preferred.
One (1) year of corrections, law enforcement, security or military experience preferred.
Must be 21 years of age.
Must successfully pass a background investigation,and maintain appropriate fitness for duty status via annual testing.
Must pass the Entry-Level Written Examination and departmental oral board examinations.
Must pass Albuquerque Police Department Academy Physical Fitness physical requirements:
Push-ups (15), Sit-ups (15), 1.5 Mile Run (17 minutes), 300 Meter Sprint (76 seconds).
Must not have committed a misdemeanor within the last three (3) years.
Must not have used an illegal drug (i.e. LSD) within the last five (5) years.
Must not have used marijuana within the last three (3) years.
Must not have committed a DWI within the last three (3) years whether from an administrative sanction by a Motor Vehicle Department, a criminal conviction or a military disciplinary action.
Must not have committed multiple DWIs within the last ten (10) years whether from an administrative sanction by a Motor Vehicle Department, a criminal conviction or a military disciplinary action.
Must have no domestic violence convictions.
Must have no felony convictions.
Must have a stable credit history.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Successfully complete and pass the Albuquerque Police Department Prisoner Transport Training Academy.
Maintain a firearms proficiency level of 80%.
Possession of a valid Firearms Certification within six (6) months from hire date.
Possession of a valid Taser Certification within six (6) months from hire date.
Possession of a valid Less-lethal Munition/OC Certification within six (6) months from hire date.
Successful completion of Defensive Tactics training within six (6) months from hire date.
