Essential Tasks:
- Perform annual physical inventory of fixed assets throughout Polk County. This includes travelling to various sites in Polk County. This position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, and lifting up to 25 pounds. The work involves crawling under desks and climbing into attics to scan and record assets.
- Perform all duties relating to the addition, deletion, or changes to the inventory of all County fixed assets.
- Establish and maintain property records for all capital tangible fixed asset expenditures including land right of way, building improvements, utility systems, equipment furniture, and infrastructure.
- Maintain vehicle and equipment title and registration file.
- Advise and instruct property custodians, professional moves, students, temporary employees and trustee.
- Determine status of surplus property and coordinate the disposal as appropriate including working with online auctions.
- Work effectively with Senior Accountant to prepare monthly and annual fixed asset activity reconciliations.
- Communicate fixed asset policies and procedures effectively to board departments, representatives from other offices, agencies, and management.
- Recommend process improvements, participate in the writing and updating of standard operating procedures, attend meetings as required by the Accounting Manager.
- Must be able to multi-task and remain flexible as conditions change and continue effective performance in the face of additional challenges.
- Provide management support for fixed asset related activity.
- Being able to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Perform other related work as required.
Minimum Skills/ Qualifications :
- Associate Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred or a minimum of 2 years direct experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, read and speak English effectively to customers and employees, and write routine correspondence and reports.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to work with other supervisors, staff, other agencies and the general public in a supportive, productive, cordial, cooperative and positive manner.
- Ability to develop and maintain a teamwork relationship with staff under his/her direction.
- Personal computer knowledge with proficient use of Word & Excel and the ability to learn industry-based software, typing 40 WPM.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and manage work to meet multiple necessary deadlines and workload.
- Ability to remain flexible as conditions change and continue effective performance in the face of additional challenges.
