ABOUT THE JOB


As a Recovery Peer, you will use your own lived experience to help others in their journey by sharing skills, tools, and information you’ve learned to transform your own life. You will instill hope while improving engagement, self-confidence, and quality of life. The majority of your time will be spent meeting with clients in community settings including residential facilities, adult foster homes, and private residences. You will regularly use agency vehicles to transport and support clients in important appointments for skill building and socialization activities such as recovery support meetings.

Peer support specialists utilize SAMHSA's Eight Dimensions of Wellness Initiative in hopes of achieving improved quality of life and longevity of peer consumers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. As defined by Oregon Administrative Rule 309-032-1501, a "Peer Support Specialist" provides peer delivered services to an individual or family member with similar life experience, under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Supervisor. A Peer Support Specialist must have at least one year of experience: as a self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services; or a self-identified person in recovery.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Must hold a Traditional Health Worker certificate as a Peer Support Specialist, with a specialty in Addictions, at the time of hire or within two (2) months of hire. For information on how to become a certified Traditional Health Worker please visit:

Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred which includes a 5% pay differential

Our Community:

Polk County is located in the Willamette Valley just an hour from the Pacific Coast to the west and an hour from Portland to the north. The population is approximately 87,000 and the county spans about 744 square miles, with two thirds of the western part of the county being forest. National protected areas include the Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Siuslaw National Forest.


The County is part of the agricultural richness the Willamette Valley has to offer. In recent decades, the valley has also become a major wine producer, with Polk County being one of the best in the area. The valley is often known as the “Oregon Wine Country”. Polk County has over 25 wineries alone.


Polk County also houses the beautiful liberal arts college, Western Oregon University, and is only 30 miles from Oregon State University. Western was an inaugural winner of the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award.
