Polk County Public Schools is looking for School Bus Drivers. This position exists to perform skilled work in the transporting students to and from public schools and/or extra-curricular activities.
You'll be a great fit for this position if you:

You are able to complete forms and records, including route sheets, time sheets, field trip forms, incident and accident reports.
- have a sincere love for kids - You use your love for our students to support them and keep them safe. You see yourself as an integral part of our students' lives and you dedicate your work time to taking care of getting them where they need to go efficiently and safely.
Here's the work you'll contribute to the team:
- Transport students to and from school, following a preplanned route according to a definite time schedule.
- Drive bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations and school board policy.
- Assume responsibility for the safety of school children in loading, unloading, and transporting them to and from school and/or extracurricular activities.
- Instruct children in safety precautions and practices.
- Signal children when to cross street or highway and assures that children are safely across upon departure from bus.
- Maintain discipline; report unruly behavior to principal of school or to supervisor.
- Inspect and sweep bus.
- Perform pre-trip inspections as required by DOE (Department of Education) and DOT (Department of Transportation) to include checking water, fuel, oil and mechanical condition before operating bus.
- Report delays and accidents.
- Keep operational records and makes reports.
- Report defects or problems with vehicle to assigned service center.
- Assure bus meets regular maintenance inspection schedules.
PAID TRAINING IS AVAILABLE! ($15 an hour while in training and working as a Substitute driver.)
- Driver training begins with 50 hours of classroom instruction.
- Total training time (including classroom) is usually 3-4 weeks.
- If you possess a class "A" or "B" CDL license with a passenger and school bus endorsement your training time may be reduced.
- Attendant training begins with 32 hours of classroom instruction.
- Total training time (including classroom) is usually 1-2 weeks.
Must be able to pass an annual physical examination.
