What are the responsibilities and job description for the Architectural Drafting Technician position at Polk County Public Schools?
Polk County Public Schools is looking for an experienced and driven candidate to fill the Architectural Drafting Technician position on the Facilities and Operations team. This position exists to perform responsible technical duties in architectural drafting and design.

You are skilled in drafting and have experience using drafting equipment. You can read and interpret civil engineering documents. You are trained and proficient in the use of CAD.

- are a strong communicator - You are able to communicate effectively with school personnel, material suppliers, and construction personnel.
- are a thinker - Must be able to read and understand building plans and specifications. Must have strong ability to anticipate, recognize, and respond to adverse situations.
Here's the work you'll contribute to the team:
- You'd be responsible for the preparation of construction documents for minor construction projects/work orders for the school district building projects using CAD.
- Investigate and research how the building functions in relationship with the needs of its occupants.
- Utilize information obtained to prepare architectural design documents.
- Perform fieldwork using transit and other measuring or testing instruments to determine existing conditions.
- Coordinate project design with school officials, material suppliers, building contractors, and construction personnel.
- Verify and maintain as-built archive drawings of all district facilities.
- Maintain Florida Inventory of School Houses (FISH) database on the Department of Education's website. Assign FISH numbers and updates the FISH district numbers, for both permanent and relocatable structures.
- Provide annual copy of updated drawings for all law enforcement agencies and fire departments having local jurisdiction over all educational facilities in the district.
Ideal applicants meet the following education and experience requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or satisfactory completion of the GED.
- Minimum of two years of formal technical training at a community college or technical school.
- Five years' minimum experience in drafting and architectural design, with all of it on AutoCAD.
