Job Summary: To create learning experiences that make subject matter meaningful for students.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain an instructional plan, which is compatible with the NC Standard Course of Study, school, and county curricular goals and is based upon the knowledge of the students and the community.
- Understand the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline taught and create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students.
- Present lessons that are aligned to the NC Standard Course of Study and provide materials for implementing lessons. Lessons include: review, introduction, presentations, relevant examples, and necessary modification, clear assignments, summarization, and evaluation.
- Provide prompt feedback on the correctness or incorrectness of student’s work.
- Understand how students differ in their approaches to learning and create instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.
- Understand and use a variety of instructional strategies to encourage student development of critical thinking, problem solving and performance skills.
- Use an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
- Use knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.
- Maintain a high level of student time-on task.

Education, experience and skills required:

Terms of Employment: 10 months – Teacher Salary Scale

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Teachers.
