Job Summary: To provide quality guidance/counseling services for Saluda students through developmentally appropriate classroom guidance lessons and individual/small group counseling sessions.
Essential Functions:
1. Plan and conduct monthly classroom guidance lessons for each class.
2. Counsel with individual students as needed or as designated on PEP’s, 504 plans, or IEPs.
3. Design, organize, and facilitate small group counseling.
4. Consult with teachers, parents, and administrators concerning guidance/counseling issues.
5. Organize an advisory committee to help develop and implement a developmentally appropriate counseling program.
6. Develop a yearly plan in which yearly goals are clearly defined and a timeline for implementation is established.
7. Make referrals to school and community programs as needed.
8. Attend Care Team meetings and note counseling implications.
9. Facilitate meetings with parents and teachers to implement 504 plans. Maintain appropriate records for these plans.
10. Develop a weekly schedule that includes appropriate time periods for classroom guidance, individual counseling, and group counseling.
11. Plan and conduct special events such as Hobby Fair, Career Day and Red Ribbon
Week.
12. Work with fifth grade students and their parents in the middle school transition process for Polk County Middle School and Flat Rock Middle School.
13. Participate in Parent/Teacher conferences as needed and/or when counseling implications apply.
14. Plan and present workshops for staff, parents and community members as needed or requested.
15. Prepare cumulative records to be copied and transferred to other schools.
16. Review records of all new students. (Distribute records as required, i.e. EC records to appropriate personnel.)
17. Coordinate school’s PEP (Personal Education Plan) Program.
18. Assist Principal in administering school’s testing (EOG) program.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
- Have or eligible for NC licensure in School Counseling
- Elementary or Middle School teaching experience preferred
- Must have strong written and oral communication skills
Terms of Employment: 10 months – Teacher Salary Scale
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board of Education policy, North Carolina statutes, and goals established by the Principal.
Environmental Factors:
This position requires walking up and down steps frequently, walking on uneven terrain.
