What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Teaching/Internships/Field Experience Placements position at Polk County Schools?
Polk County Schools is very excited to support future teachers and we look forward to supporting students through student teaching, practicums or internships.
When a student requests placement, the District’s procedure is as follows:
All prospective student teachers, practicums or internships must complete an application for the placement on www.polkschools.org/employment.
Students placement candidates will adhere to our Board policy 7100 for a Criminal History background check procedures.
Candidates must provide a written outline to Personnel upon application of the expectations from the college or university of the Student, Cooperating/ Supervising teacher and Polk County Schools during the placement.
All placements must have the signed approval of the Personnel Director, hosting Principal or Supervisor and the Cooperating/Supervising teacher.
Current employees requesting student teaching, practicum or internship placements must also be approved through Personnel and the Principal of the school.
Dependent upon the requirements placed by the college or university, practicums and internships may be completed in conjunction with the employees position and for Teacher Assistants may be done in the classroom they are assigned.
Employees must ask for a Professional leave of absence without pay from the Board of Education for Student Teaching. In order to provide a comprehensive and unbiased experience which meets the true goal of a student teaching placement, Teaching Assistants will be placed in a different classroom and cooperating/supervising teacher than the employee is assigned.
