What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Internship position at Polk County (WI)?
This Internship is designed to offer a student direct exposure to their current coursework in fields related to Geographic Information Systems; in coordination of their college coursework, professor and/or academic counselor.
Duration of internship: 40 hours per week for 12-week period (480 hours total)
Work schedule: Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Housing/Lodging: Polk County does not offer internship housing. It is the responsibility of the selected candidates to secure housing within a reasonable distance during the internship period.
•Cartographic production- updating GIS data and corresponding maps to produce an atlas.
•Creates thematic and comprehensive maps for analysis, quality control, presentations and distribution.
•Assists in updating GIS address data.
•Provides technical assistance and advice to users in all aspects of GIS.
•Troubleshoots GIS technology issues.
•Translates legal land descriptions and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) data to cartographic representations.
•Researches and evaluates current/new technologies and recommends implementation strategies.
•Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Students applying for this internship should be a Geography, Environmental Science, Planning, Hydrology/Water Resources, Geographic Information Systems, Natural Resource Management, Conservation and Environmental Planning or related major.
