The Polk County Highway Department is seeking a Summer Seasonal worker.
Our Seasonal employees work up to 40 hours per week, 4-10 hours days. NO nights or weekends!! An opportunity to work outside all summer!

Under the direct supervision of the work unit supervisor, seasonal laborer performs skilled operation of motorized equipment used in the construction, assist in the repair and maintenance of County roadways doing traffic control and flagging operations. This is a combination of common physical labor and some vehicle and equipment operation.
- Traffic control and flagging operations
- Operate mowers, trimmers, tractors and attachments, and related grounds and roadway maintenance equipment
- County roadway, or trail construction, repair and maintenance including brushing, grading, mowing and other related activities
- Minor carpentry and masonry work, as well as minor repairs to equipment as needed
- Perform preventative maintenance in other areas as directed
- Complete necessary paperwork related to work activities
- Participate as a team member to improve efficiency and cooperatively solve problems
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Education/Experience: Must possess a High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and the working knowledge and skills to properly and safely operate motorized equipment. Training/experience or schooling in equipment operation, maintenance or related field preferred. Must be experiences in the operation of power grounds care equipment (mowers, trimmers, tractors and attachments) as well as knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: Frequently sit, stand, stoup, bend and climb; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must: Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must work on construction sites or on grounds with uneven ground, slopes and ditches. Must be able to stand for long periods of time while flagging or performing other maintenance activities.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Eye/hand coordination, close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
