Under the supervision of the Dean of Workforce Education, the Program Director of, Teacher Apprenticeship Program ensures effective program development, recruitment, retention, and successful course completion for aspiring educators in the Teacher Apprenticeship Program (TAP). The TAP program provides a structured pathway for individuals to gain classroom experience, pedagogical knowledge, and professional certification while addressing teacher shortages through a hands-on apprenticeship model. The Program Director evaluates the effectiveness of all TAP courses on an ongoing basis to ensure they remain current, meet accreditation standards, and align with institutional objectives. This results-oriented leader not only oversees program deliverables but also values and fosters positive relationships with students, faculty, and external education partners to ensure long-term program success.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions / Duties :

  • Provides comprehensive program development, strategic planning, and oversight of the Teacher Apprenticeship Program.
  • Leads the day-to-day operations of the program to ensure programmatic and fiscal integrity.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the TAP curriculum to align with state certification requirements and educational best practices.
  • Design program evaluation and assessment metrics in coordination with Institutional Effectiveness, Accreditation, and Research.
  • Ensures collaboration between TAP personnel and academic departments to support cohesive curriculum delivery.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with school districts, educational partners, and other stakeholders to facilitate apprenticeship placements and employment pipelines.
  • Directs the admissions and onboarding processes, including candidate interviews, selection, and orientation.
  • Hires, trains, manages, and evaluates program staff and faculty mentors.
  • Develops and manages the departmental budget effectively, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource allocation.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with K-12 schools, community organizations, and local education agencies to support program outcomes and student employment opportunities.
  • Recruits and supports Faculty Mentors and Cooperating Teachers to ensure quality mentorship for apprentices.
  • Facilitates Advisory Board meetings with key stakeholders to align program goals with regional education workforce needs.
  • Plans and facilitates regular professional development opportunities for program participants and mentors.
  • Designs and directs marketing and recruitment campaigns in collaboration with the Office of Communication and Public Affairs.
  • Represents the Teacher Apprenticeship Program at campus events, school district meetings, and community engagements.
  • Stays informed on state education policies, teaching certification requirements, and workforce trends to guide program direction.

Typical Qualifications

Required Skills :

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of professional training and development program design.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional method theory, and practical applications.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a variety of contacts of considerable importance within, and outside of, the college. Contacts outside the college where lack of tact or judgment may result in negative college relations to a limited degree.
  • Ability to work independently with the responsibility for planning details and methods to obtain definite objectives and to make decisions within broad limitations of policy and professional standards.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with college personnel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Working Conditions / Additional Information

  • Normal office working conditions with occasional travel to school district sites, community meetings, and educational events.

  • This position is level P14 .

    Required Education :

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field required.
  • Required Experience

  • Five years of experience in K-12 teaching or three years of teaching in a teacher preparation program is required.
  • Two years of experience supervising personnel required.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field preferred.
  • Four years of experience in teacher education or teacher preparation programs.
  • Teaching certification in K-12 Education.
  • Experience in managing apprenticeship or workforce development programs.
  • Knowledge of the Florida College System and state teacher certification requirements.
  • Three years of experience teaching at a college or university level.
