Summary:

Teaches physical exercise skills related to Personal Training Services, Group Exercise, or Pilates Training as certified and directed. Greets and serves all members and their guests in a professional and pleasant manner and ensures a safe environment in all training facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following;

  • Ensures a Health History Questionnaire is on file for any member or guest who intends to use personal training and Pilates services. Screens for risks and brings any concerns to the attention of the Director of Spa and Fitness for referral back to physician approval.
  • Tailors fitness programs designed individually to meet members needs and in consideration of members physical condition.
  • Performs fitness orientations, fitness assessments, consultations and education in all aspects of fitness training and healthy living habits.
  • Provides limited nutritional counseling adhering to USDA Guidelines. Diets and weight loss regimes and supplements are to be avoided; any members seeking advanced help should be directed to the Director of Spa and Fitness for referral, or to planned programming under the supervision of a dietary professional.
  • Enforces Fitness Center Rules and Spa policies and follows all aspects of job safety daily, understands proper completion of Incident Report Form.
  • Learns member names, encourages and motivates them.
  • Provides proper demonstration of exercises in form, tempo and range of motion. All aspects should be considered and respected when offering advice to avoid injury.
  • Teaches good fitness & health habits, including proper warm up, cool down, delayed muscle soreness and expectations of fitness components.
  • Provides blood pressure and heart rate readings offering education to the effects of exercise on both measurements as requested. All blood pressure readings at or over 180/90 requires calling Polo EMS.
  • Knows and implements all emergency procedures including: hurricane, inclement weather, fire, medical and security, as needed.
  • Maintains accurate written records of all members and their guests engaged in Personal Training and Pilates who are assigned to you. Records should provide a chronological case history of Health History, Assessments, Blood Pressure, resting Heart Rate, per iodization of their program, individual exercises prescribed detailing the type of equipment used, workloads, repetitions and any other relevant information that the member/guest shares. Season and Off-season chart notes.
  • Ensures the safety of all members and guests in fitness areas and equipment by proactively being involved with any potentially risky situation. All areas are to remain free of clutter, and a circle of safety respected to every member and exercise performed. This is a number one priority.
  • Monitors and spots clients and provides corrective assistance when necessary. Monitors respiration, skin color, perspiration and other physical signs to ensure client safety.
  • Shows regular attention to your training schedule by using computer program designed to hold your daily bookings. Informs all clients of Training Cancellation Policy and attains member signature on chit for all services rendered.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions specific to the employee handbook and the Fitness Department Operations Manual.
  • Functions as the Trainer on Duty and monitors fitness floor for overall safety and customer service as scheduled by the Personal Training Coordinator.
  • Participates in all staff trainings, special events, and fitness programs as planned by the Director of Spa and Fitness.
  • Communicates with members, co-workers, management and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Spa, Fitness and FRC.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires broad knowledge of exercise equipment, use and specific applications.
  • Must have excellent member service and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be in excellent physical shape.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to verbally communicate well in English and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers and members.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must have experience with all ages, all genders and all fitness levels.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to communicate well in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of members or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software Internet software, Outlook and Fitness Center computer programs.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

First Aid, CPR, AED and Nationally recognized Personal Training, Pilates, or Group Exercise certification specific to areas of instruction.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
