Description

The Polo Club Manager in Training Program offers an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of the nation’s finest private clubs. Designed for hospitality students and aspiring professionals, this program provides immersive training in a high-end club operation, allowing interns to develop exceptional service skills, leadership qualities, and real-world expertise in a five star club environment. 

 

Summary:

Assists the Golf Course Superintendents, Assistants, and Director of GCM in managing all phases of golf course maintenance to develop skills needed for future management position.  Participates in all training with fertility and plant protectant programs, irrigation installation and repairs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following;

 

  • Assists with planning, scheduling, instructing, training, and directing crew in the performance of golf course maintenance procedures and job responsibilities.
  • Performs checks of processes throughout the day.
  • Oversees chemical and fertilizer applications and assists as necessary.
  • Advises Management of course conditions.
  • Oversees cleanup and storage of tools and equipment at the end of the shift.
  • Advises the Management of all performance issues and enforces of performance standards.
  • Assumes management responsibilities as needed.
  • Communicates with members, co-workers, management and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires developing knowledge of agronomy and related practices.
  • Requires knowledge of the game of golf.
  • Must be able to supervise work effectively.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in the heat for extended periods of time along with various weather changes.
  • Must have good customer relations skills.
  • Previous club experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers and members.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

 

 

Training Tasks:

  • Perform applications with all spray equipment and fertilizer spreaders including mixing/loading, record keeping, clean-up
  • Conduct irrigation management, diagnostics, trouble shooting, moisture management, and computer software usage.
  • Set-up golf course(s) for normal and tournament play.
  • Perform mowing applications to understand functionality, patterns, and quality of cut. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws under the direction of upper management. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems all while under the direction of upper management.

 

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Associate’s degree (A.S.) in Agronomy or Horticulture or higher, in the process of pursuing a degree as such, or previous internship/apprenticeship development program.

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals when appropriate. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, common inquiries and complaints from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.  

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software, Spreadsheet software and the ability to learn to operate the Irrigation System software.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Acquire State of Florida Commercial Applicator license in Ornamental and Turf and Florida Best Management Practices within six months of employment.

GCSAA and PBGCSA membership.

Valid Florida driver’s license and a good driving record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.

 

Assists in fertilizing, inspecting courses and reaching to tree trees.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather). The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
