The company founder, Mr. Andrew Sandler, is a philanthropist with a desire to give back in a meaningful way and re-invest Polo Reef company profits in research and education endeavors focused on advancing knowledge with respect to coral reef and rare fish preservation. The famous aquarium itself is 17,000 gallons which is one of the largest privately owned aquarium in the world, and it contains some of the rarest fish and corals from around the globe.
What your day could consist of:
- General maintenance and care of various aquarium systems.
- Maintenance of filtration and life support systems.
- Assist with detailed water chemistry test and logging.
- Observe and maintain proper water chemistry for optimal fish and coral health.
- Assist with fish and coral feeding.
- Observe coral and fish specimens for pests or diseases.
- Assist with preventative and active medical treatments for coral and fish.
- Assist with maintenance of Apex units and testing equipment.
- Keep detailed logs of pest treatment.
- Maintain lab and aquarium conditions clean and organized.
- Assist with inventory levels of supplies and feeds.
- Assist with new coral and fish quarantine processes and treatments.
- Partake in scheduled water change regimens and saltwater mixing.
- Assist with aquacultured coral propagation.
- Assist with transporting coral and fish specimens.
- Maintain detailed weekly reports of observation and activities performed during the week.
Qualifications:
- Must be experience and proficient with coral reef aquariums.
- Must fully understand water chemistry parameters and methods to adjust water parameters.
- Must be knowledgeable with coral species and care.
- Must be knowledgeable with coral and fish pests and diseases.
Bonus Skills:
- Currently own a thriving reef aquarium
- Is experienced with small polyped stony corals
- Has worked in the aquarium and coral husbandry field.
Experience:
- Minimum 5-year experience with marine fish and coral husbandry.
Additional:
- Please provide photos of your current aquarium if you have one. Not a requirement but a big plus!
- Part time and Full time position
- Team Oriented work environment.
- Weekend availability will be required - Typically one weekend day.
- Position location private but in the vicinity of North Shore exit 40 of the LIE, NY
