Position Title:          Speech-Language Pathologist

 

School Site:             District Wide, 1.0 FTE

 

Salary:                    To Be Determined, Based on Experience

 

Start Date:               On or around August 27, 2021 (PIR)

                                   

           

Terms of Employment:  Speech-Language Pathologist is a non-represented position with the Polson School District. Sick leave and vacation days per MT statute for public employees.

 

Qualifications:  Speech-Language Pathologist shall follow the IDEA federal law and State of Montana’s Special Education Rules and Regulations in the delivery of speech and language services.

                                     

Academic Qualifications:  An applicant must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the State of Montana and holds the Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC).

Job Description

 

Speech-Language Pathologist

 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Special Services

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate punctuality and regular, consistent attendance.
  • Demonstrate standards of professional and ethical conduct.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and respect for social, cultural, linguistic, religious, economic, and ability differences in students and their families.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with student and student’s family information.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Demonstrate understanding, patience and caring toward at-risk children and children with special needs.
  • Use appropriate assessments and reporting practice.
  • Participate in the study team process.
  • Plan, directs and participates in the identification, rehabilitation and instructional programs for the communicatively handicapped students.
  • Provide direct/indirect clinical education services to those with severe language voice, fluency, and articulation or hearing disorders.
  • Assess and diagnose the communication needs and behaviors of referred students.
  • Participate in Child Find and Kindergarten Roundup for Polson School District 23.
  • Initiate programs to inform the community of children’s communication needs and the range of speech and language services offered in Polson School District 23.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork for students. This may include, but not limited to assessment reports, written summary reports with recommendations for service, IEP’s, measurable annual goals, communication to staff and parents, documents, Medicaid billing forms, progress reports to meet required deadlines.
  • Participate in in-service and training, both required and as agreed upon by Speech Therapist and administration.
  • Participate in IEP meetings or other conferences related to students.
  • Schedule students for therapy sessions.
  • Implement a planned program of individual and/or group speech therapy.
  • Effectively manage time and tasks that may sometimes have severe time constraints.
  • Write speech and language evaluation reports and recommendations.

EQUIPMENT USED:

 

Position may require training in the following:  Promethean Board, computer, calculator, copier, telephone/voice mail, fax, emails, printers, internet, software use, augmentative communication devices, special needs equipment including wheelchairs, lifts, etc.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside but may be assigned to outside activities. The employee must be able to meet deadlines, sometimes with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Duty-free lunch will be provided. Potential hazards include stairs, dust, drafts, communicable diseases, aggressive students.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, and stand; twist at neck, bend at waist; kneel; reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.

 

MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work.  The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are usually available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications.
