Nature and Scope of Position

An employee in this position assists with maintenance activities in a plastics compounding and additive master batch manufacturing facility. Duties also include grounds maintenance and operating extrusion equipment as a substitute for Senoir Operators and/or Operator/Mixers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Maintains a safe work environment and complies with all safety requirements, including use of personal protective equipment when required.

· Assists in repair or replacement of defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.

· Assists in routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.

· Inspects drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.

· Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

· Assists with installation and/or repair of wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.

· Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

· Assists with removal and repair of defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.

· Monitors work areas and examines tools and equipment in order to detect unsafe conditions or violations of procedures or safety rules.

· Maintains buildings and grounds of plant and office, including landscaping and building repair.

· Adheres to the PolyChem Alloy Code of Conduct.

Miscellaneous Duties

· Demonstrates ability to establish successful working relationships.

· Understands and provides cross training in related areas or other parts of the company.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

· High school diploma, vocational course of study related to repair and maintenance of machinery and on-the-job training.

Language Skills

· Ability to read, analyze and interpret blueprints and diagrams.

· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and writing in English.

Mathematical Skills

· Ability to calculate figures and to perform basic arithmetic computations.

Computer Skills

· Knowledge of computer software, including applications such as Word and Excel.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

· Forklift certification

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

· Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

· Installation: Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.

· Repairing: Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.

· Troubleshooting: Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.

· Static Strength: The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.

· Manual Dexterity: The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee is often required to spend time bending or twisting the body in cramped work spaces and awkward positions. The employee must exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects. The employee must at times lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and be exposed to high places and temperature extremes. The employee works indoors and outdoors and has contact with others.

The employee is responsible for outcomes and results and it is important to be exact or accurate. The consequences of error can be high. This position is results oriented and allows the employee to use their strongest abilities, thus giving them a feeling of accomplishment when tasks are achieved.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
