Job Purpose/Summary:


The Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager is responsible for championing, overseeing, and implementing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations occurs, minimizing workplace risks, and promoting a culture of safety through proactive hazard identification, risk assessment, training, incident investigation, and continuous improvement initiatives. All of this is done while collaborating with various departments to maintain operational efficiency and protect employee well-being and the environment.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and maintains environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs and procedures to foster a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Creates and updates policies and procedures to reduce the company’s environmental footprint and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, conducting regular audits to ensure workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Leads workplace safety programs, including ergonomic assessments and workplace wellness initiatives, to promote a safer work environment.
  • Supports Mission Zero – Striving to achieve Zero Incidents by proactively addressing hazards and fostering employee engagement in safety programs.
  • Develops and trains internal area Safety Champions and leads the Safety Committee to reinforce safety culture and best practices.
  • Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of EHS initiatives.
  • Tracks safety metrics and trends to proactively identify areas for improvement and reduce incidents.
  • Inspects the facility and workplace equipment to identify safety, health, and environmental risks, ensuring prompt corrective actions.
  • Prepares and conducts training programs to educate employees on emergency procedures, workplace safety, environmental protection, and compliance requirements.
  • Trains employees to have an active role in workplace safety by developing their ability to recognize and report potential hazards ("eyes for safety").
  • Ensures compliance with environmental and occupational safety regulations by overseeing inspections, audits, and corrective action plans.
  • Manages hazardous materials, including proper handling, storage, distribution, and disposal, while maintaining accurate records and permits.
  • Leads investigations into workplace safety incidents, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Oversee OSHA recordkeeping, including maintaining OSHA logs and ensuring timely reporting of workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Manages the company's Workers' Compensation program, including injury reporting, return-to-work programs, and claims management.
  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are maintained and readily accessible for all hazardous materials in use.
  • Leads emergency preparedness and response initiatives, ensuring employees are trained in fire safety, evacuation procedures, and first aid.
  • Oversees the development and execution of environmental sustainability programs, including waste reduction, energy conservation, and pollution prevention.
  • Maintains compliance documentation, permits, and regulatory reporting to meet local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Collaborates with leadership and employees to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Skills/Certifications:

  • Deep understanding of local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing potential workplace hazards.
  • Thoroughly investigating workplace accidents and near misses to prevent recurrence.
  • Effectively communicating safety policies and procedures to employees at all levels.
  • Developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Interpreting safety data to identify trends and implement improvements.
  • Analyzing issues and creating practical solutions to mitigate safety risks.
  • Conducting regular inspections to ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Collaborating with various departments to promote a safety culture.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.


Minimum Education & Work Experience Required:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five years of related experience preferred.
  • Industry certifications preferred (Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM), OSHA 30-Hour certification).


Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, including safety procedures, hazard identification, personal protective equipment (PPE), and ergonomics.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate potential hazards through risk assessments and proactive safety measures.
  • Ability to thoroughly investigate workplace incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Conduct regular safety audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues and recommend necessary improvements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey safety information to employees at all levels, conduct training sessions, and interact with stakeholders (including written, oral, and presentation).
  • Strong analytical abilities to interpret data, analyze trends, and make informed decisions regarding safety practices.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Leading and implementing changes to safety procedures and practices while effectively managing resistance.
  • Fostering a safety-first culture by actively engaging employees in safety initiatives and promoting open communication.


Supervisory Responsibility & Budget Accountability:

  • Must be able to manage a budget.
  • Minimal Supervisory responsibility

  • Uses independent judgement and discretion based upon the employee’s experience in the position and knowledge of the products, equipment, and services.
  • Moderate levels of stress may be experienced in the performance of the job.
  • Position is performed in a manufacturing environment.
  • This position is on-site, based out of Polydeck’s Global Headquarters, located at 1790 Dewberry Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
