Job Purpose/Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Technician A is to ensure all manufacturing equipment, buildings, and property is in optimal working condition through preventive and predictive maintenance, continuous improvement projects and repair work based on thorough root cause analysis. The Maintenance Technician A acts as a subject matter expert and shares their knowledge with the other Maintenance team members to bolster their skills.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Able to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair production equipment including, but not limited to, injection molding machines, lathes, waterjet, router, central drying system, robotics, etc.
- Repair and diagnose problems with auxiliary equipment such as thermolaters, chillers, air compressors, cooling towers, etc.
- Prompt identification of machine problems to minimize equipment downtime with root cause analysis conducted to prevent a reoccurrence.
- Able to read, understand and apply electrical, mechanical and pneumatic schematics and diagrams.
- Competent in all industrial electrical wiring. Running equipment service including running conduit and sizing wire, wiring motors, running cabling and control wiring.
- Detect and diagnose electrical and/or mechanical problems, repair equipment as required (or directed) and test for proper operation prior to returning to production.
- Conduct preventative maintenance checks and inspections of assigned equipment
- Demonstrate ability to operate the basic functions of: all plant production equipment.
- Must have good organizational skills, able to handle multiple tasks, and can work in an empowered team environment.
- Performs equipment failure analysis; troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment problems.
- Experience and good working knowledge of injection molding machine processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs to PLC’s.
- Handles electrical/electronic troubleshooting and repairs.
- Performs calibrations and repairs on hydraulic machines.
- Repairs broken parts and performs building repairs, as needed, for the plant.
- Machines parts for rebuilding manufacturing equipment.
- Installation of new equipment.
- Purchases parts for inventory in order to expedite repair work. Organizes spare parts inventory to allow quick retrieval.
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA safety rules and standards with an emphasis on safe work habits are required.
- Adhere to and enforce the highest standards in our safety and good manufacturing practices.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement methodologies as part of your daily routine, participate in departmental meetings providing constructive operational & efficiency improvement recommendations.
- Transfer of technical and operating knowledge to the Maintenance Technicians in order to enhance their contributions.
- Hands-on knowledge of pick-and-place and welding robotic systems is a plus (Sepro, CLOOS)
- Performs other duties as requested
Necessary Abilities/Skills/Certifications:
- PLC trouble shooting and programming (Allen Bradley / Yaskawa)
- Strong electro-mechanical and hydraulic diagnostic skills
- Formal technical training and/or previous maintenance experience in an injection molding manufacturing plant and/or environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Motivation and ability to work a flexible work schedule very important
- Must have competent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Microsoft Word and Excel as well as the fixx system.
- The ability to verbalize in the work order system work done and work needed.
- Proven ability to operate poly injection molders.
- Proven ability to operate rubber injection molder Desma/Panstones.
- Proven ability to operate the Cr Onsrud router.
- Proven ability to operate the Omax waterjet.
- Proven ability to operate the Pin molders.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot 3 phase circuits.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot 24 vdc control circuits.
- Proven ability to follow ladder logic to troubleshoot plc related issues.
- Proven ability to follow hydraulic schematics for troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to weld stick, mig as well as tig welding.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot welders to repair issues.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot vacuum conveying systems.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot simple process issues.
- Proven ability to wire 3 phase motors and transformers.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot relay logic circuits.
- Proven ability to properly troubleshoot 3 phase heater circuits.
Minimum Education and Work Experience Required:
- Experience in manufacturing operations
- High school or GED diploma, with some technical maintenance classes, certification preferred
- 4-5 years maintenance work experience, preferably in the plastics industry
- Strong background in PLC, electronics, electrical, pneumatics and hydraulic repairs.
- Able to read schematics and blueprints.
- Computer literate.
